  1. Booker blocked a three. Texas closes game out from foul line. Up 7 with 16 sec. left.
  2. Back to the women. 6 pt lead one minute to go now 4 pts with 45 sec left.
  3. Kaluma came back in with about 7 min lef in the half. I think I would not have done that
  4. Larry hit an open three off a good pass from Mark who has been the guy so far this game.
  5. I thought Weaver was fouled on his corner trey NOT called
  6. I have been watching the women. They lead LSU by 6 at the half.
  7. There is a coach watch thread on this board but it is not this one and it is not the game thread. Kent played very well, especially in the first half. The team apparently has never practiced against the 2-2-1 zone press, which when executed with skill is the toughest defense in basketball but which is a known quantity and should be practiced against before playing a team that employs it. Tre tries on D, he isn't lazy, but he isn't good at it. I had attributed that to his having to go full bore on offense but I now also think there is an inexperience factor working against him as a team defender. He doesn't anticipate the ball movement. Gets caught looking, or a step behind. I don't understand not using Devin much or at all in second halves. Were Weaver available this would make more sense. I appreciate Kaluma's toughness, without which the team would be almost mush. Kaluma is playing dinged, yet he is good for a double-double. As Jordan suggested elsewhere, Tre is now the most likely ball handler and passer to survive on offense. Larry played good defense last night. There was a Vinson sighting. Beat OU.
  8. Glad to see the win. The 2-2-1 zone press is the most difficult to break in basketball when it is well executed. But it is also well known and should be practiced against before playing an opponent skilled in it. Beat OU at home. Maybe get Chendall back? One game at a time.
  9. Back in 1964 I watched a team use the 2-2-1 zone press to win every game in March Madness.
  10. Easily Kent's best game - first time I have seen him play well. I have not seen every game so perhaps he has had another game where he was in position, and quick to the ball and quick to the rim. This level of play from him means reliance on Onyema can be limited. Trey's maturation as a passer is obvious. Kaluma and Mark playing through injuries. They are not giving up in this game as they did against Georgia. I thought that game marked the end of the season because of the disintegration of any semblance of defense. I would like to see another good half.
  11. ISU has impressed me under Coach O. ISU is a basketball friendly place. Great home arena crowds. But Texas has shown potential [at least, when winning] with the Moody and the student seating that could be attractive to Otzelberger. I think CDC will do as well as he can with what Texas can offer - but it does come down to what CAN and WILL Texas offer [for coaches plus NIL]? I hope it is an attractive package that frees CDC to have excellent options. There are coaches with running styles that would tend to fill the Moody, and they would always be my personal preference as a live viewer in the arena. Coach Otz is one of them. Will Wade is another. I accept Bierce's review of Pitino's son although I have never seen his team play. There are several other Usual Suspects, but for my taste, stay away from coaches who rely first on defensive bangers to the detriment of offensive speed, even if they are proven winners with it. And while I think Royal Ivey is going to stay in the NBA, we know from his Olympic team that he coaches a fast brand of ball and can develop team structure from raw kids. Just sayin...
  12. I could imagine myself 65 years ago as the previous ICW lefty - I felt his motion. But I do not feel this guy. Also, if I had given up three long outs the previous inning my HS coach would have pulled me. Or else the seventh would have happened to me.
  13. I think QE's apparent physical brittleness will hurt his draft stock just as it limited him at Texas.
  14. Jeff, how bad is Kaluma's knee? Is it a bruise or a strain or a tear? What do we know?
  15. I am sure Shedrick would like to stay upright.
  16. If at first you dont succeed try try again...
  17. But without Kaluma and Weaver he is what we get.
  18. It was originally thought that Pope had a green light whenever he was open. That seems a bad plan.
