  1. Make this one certain rule inviolable: in order to participate, all college athletes must be students in good standing making reasonable progress toward a degree - in the immortal words of Ross Perot, NO PASS NO PLAY. This simple baseline has more often been ignored by basketball powers than by P4 football teams, if news stories are evidence. I don/t believe UNC - CH has ever taken a hit for any of Roy Williams' teams of non-student athletes.
  2. Hah! I thought I had experienced a senior moment!
  3. We think we know Colt from his comments and Blake's on YouTube, so we are especially shocked and saddened that this happened. I join with all the OTF family in a prayer for Colt and another for the Monroe family.
  4. Might start both Larry and Kent, and play Weaver and Kaluma as heavy rotation, or vice versa. The point would be to keep Larry and Kent on the floor together.
  5. That was a big part of a repeating problem: the setting is not well defined, as it has been in previous seasons. That is, the many big hitters are not receiving as many precise passes into their kill zones as our championship teams produced.. Poor receiving of serve, which you have pointed out, may be a root cause for numerous imprecise sets. HookemTexas said I feel like the core part of the problem is terrible passing. They can’t control the ball in serve receive (especially Madi). Texas has been spoiled with great back rows having two high level transfers the past two seasons. This year there was no high level third defensive specialist which forced them to have 1 hitter to play the back row and that’s who atm and Missouri attacked on the serve. Actually beat me to it, but there is no reason not to repeat it!
  6. GH, do you have more details? After the first scrimmage several of the players were quoted with positive comments about each other and the willingness to share the ball and defend the perimeter. Someone remarked that the team appeared ten deep, not eight. Perhaps that was over-exuberance. So what do you hear this time, and are there any video clips?
  7. Is Logan Eggleston in the broadcast booth? Would you agree that Devin was most effective [specifically] as an Opposite tonight?
  8. Intentionally coaching basketball to be played at a very slow pace is unhealthy, obviously. Seriously, I hope he is OK.
  9. A woman hired a contractor to repaint the interior of her house. The woman walked the man through the second floor of her home and told him what colors she wanted for each room. As they walked through the first room, the woman said, "I think I would like this room in a cream color." The contractor wrote on his clipboard, walked to the window, opened it and yelled out, "Green side up!" He then closed the window and continued following the woman to the next room. The woman looked confused, but proceeded with her tour. "In this room, I was thinking of an offblue." Again, the contractor wrote this down, went to the window, opened it and yelled out, "Green side up!" This baffled the woman, but she was hesitant to say anything. In the next room, the woman said she would like it painted in a light rose color. And once more, the contractor opened the window and yelled, "Green side up!" Struck with curiosity, the woman mustered up the nerve to ask, "Why do you keep yelling 'Green side up' out my window every time I tell you the color I would like the room?" The contractor replied, "Because I have a crew of Aggies laying sod across the street."
  10. Why don't Aggies eat M&M's? They're too hard to peel.
  11. Off topic: Blake, will Lance Jackson play baseball at Texas?
  12. I don't think Oregon is overrated. I think they are in the conversation and I think tOSU gets them in the B1G champ game. There were a lot of good players on that field in Eugene Saturday night.
  13. I don't worry as much that Silas Bolden might get separated from the football on one of those flying returns as I do that he might get separated into little pieces.
  14. If you count the holding call on Helm as against the OL I think there were two.
  15. 1] How many Aggie Fish does it take to screw in a light bulb? None. That is a sophomore course at aTm. NEXT!
  16. Craig Way. One ear pod. One ear open to wife. Watch later. I have done this few times in my my life, especially during years I was compelled to attend offsprings' games on Saturdays.
  17. Heard should have played for any team that was running option football that year. At Texas he was a square peg in a round hole. There was this game, and Cal, for proof of concept. Thinking Hawkins...would OU run option football at us?
  18. Some of us would prefer Wisner get the most snaps. He seems to be a tougher and more adept RB than Blue to me and to others here who have expressed similar opinions. Do you have a clue as to the staff's thinking?
  19. I agree with the OP, and just want to add a vote for Klatt as someone who conveys insights clearly and with precision. I think McElroy is an easy listen as well. Klatt, like Herbstreit, is quietly confident in his own assessments, which is very convincing to a casual fan like me!
  20. Is KDB's calling deep shots based on his QB's strengths and weaknesses coupled with a suspect run game? Tying this to your comment about QBs, with which I partially agree, if KDB had QE he could use the short pass to advantage and probably would. I agree with you that Texas has two QBs who would win more games at Texas then would a Diego Pavia, because they are great passers and smart players. Where I disagree with you is this: Diego Pavia has been a QB for teams without notable talent and has led them to astonishing wins, in games where they would have lost by multiple TDs without him. He is not able to overcome all his team's shortcomings, all the time. Vandy will lose many games that it should lose - after all, Pavia does not play on defense. But he inspires his teammates to play over their heads in tough games. Frankly, I doubt QE would thrive at Vandy, But QE will be a pro QB and Diego Pavia may become a head coach in high school. Some day Pavia may become the head coach at Vandy. But he will never have QE's career at QB. In that respect, I agree with you.
  21. If leadership is job 1 for a QB then Diego Pavia is the best college QB in the nation. Go back and watch him for NMxSt against Auburn at Auburn last season. He is probably not going to the NFL or even the CFL, but he is a rare specimen of a certain type of great college QB.
  22. ULM looked good at home beating previously undefeated JMU, which had been favored over Boise for the #12 seed in the playoffs [after Madison scored 70 against UNC]. I thought the distance between the haves and the have nots would be greater this season, but the P4 conference races all look like meat grinders at this point. Gerry pointed out "home team advantage", which is most pronounced when talent is relatively even and the stadium is YOURS. Note that Cal's stadium advantage does not exist, fortunately for Miami. Texas has AWAY games against two of the home teams with BIG stadium crowd advantages. Plus, Vandy fans seem as eager as his offensive line to come alive for Diego Pavia. We have history to cheer us having played well in away games before hostile crowds recently. Nevertheless, the next seven games will be a grind and the next two will be Midterm Exams.
  23. Jeanty takes pass blocking seriously, as well.
