  1. A good kid who would have been our third string QB had a decent year. Murphy led Duke to 9-3 and threw 26 TDs during the season. He admitted that he still had a lot to learn, but he will have a bowl game and two more seasons to reach his potential at Duke. And even if he had remained here to learn from Sark he never would have become a starter absent injuries to others. I think we all liked him here and continue to wish him well against everyone but Texas.
  2. So if both Penn State and Indiana lose their final games Ohio State backs into the B1G title game, right? Oregon can lose to the Dubs and they are still in the B1G title game, right? And all four will be in the Playoff, right? Any damned thing can happen this season.
  3. Happy Thanksgiving!
  4. Where is Frank Martin today?
  5. Crossing a Simmental bull and a Santa Gertrudis heifer creates a hybrid, but crossing a Santa Gertrudis bull and a Simmental heifer might be a hubris. Asking for an Aggie.
  6. I was born in 1943 and grew up on a farm in NJ near Princeton. I knew about Ivy League football on the radio. I saw pro football on TV, but the only college game I can recall seeing before 1951 on TV was an Army-Navy game... in black and white, on a screen no bigger than a laptop computer screen today. I entered Rice in 1960 and UT Law in 1964. I came with friends to Austin in 1961 for the Rice - Texas game. I loved Austin. I came here for Law School and never looked back, and while I had known many Rice players I immediately became a Texas fan in the fall of 1964. Two of my kids are Exes and my twin granddaughters hope to be admitted in 2027 - they are carrying the GPAs and test scores they need, so far. -------- Our University has become recognized as elite, nationally and internationally. Athletics are an incredibly successful side hustle, that few other elite universities or even near elite ones have been able to accomplish. I am a fan of all UT sports, but it is made sweeter for me knowing that it does not come with a sacrifice of academic standards of which I can be proud. Now if only my granddaughters can keep up the good work!
  7. Rhetorical question? IIRC, several major programs wanted him to leave UTSA. He was a good fit here from the beginning, even without stellar sack numbers, and could have been a solid starter for any team. I hope he does come back next season and note that he did not stand for senior day at the game.
  8. I thought JQJ was a great HS player.
  9. Talk about leaning on the defense...
  10. Why is QE so inconsistent on his long ball? Mental or physical?
  11. Considering that the run game is OK here there is too much passing. As soon as I say that Helm makes a fine catch on a tight window throw
  12. Allowiing for the need of NIL transient built teams to jell with what amounts to pre-conference scrimmages, Bierce's point that these could be played against better patsies than the ones on our schedule is well taken. My recollection is that our recent former coach whose name we will not write had a long history of scheduling the very worst teams that he could in the pre-season. I don't think that is a carry-over problem, however. CDC and RT can get us back to where the tune-up opponents are again teams such as Rice, Arlington, and UTEP. Opponents that are eminently beatable but that can fog glass with their breath should strengthen Texas. We do have NMxSt in that category this season.
  13. Make this one certain rule inviolable: in order to participate, all college athletes must be students in good standing making reasonable progress toward a degree - in the immortal words of Ross Perot, NO PASS NO PLAY. This simple baseline has more often been ignored by basketball powers than by P4 football teams, if news stories are evidence. I don/t believe UNC - CH has ever taken a hit for any of Roy Williams' teams of non-student athletes.
  14. Hah! I thought I had experienced a senior moment!
  15. We think we know Colt from his comments and Blake's on YouTube, so we are especially shocked and saddened that this happened. I join with all the OTF family in a prayer for Colt and another for the Monroe family.
  16. Might start both Larry and Kent, and play Weaver and Kaluma as heavy rotation, or vice versa. The point would be to keep Larry and Kent on the floor together.
  17. That was a big part of a repeating problem: the setting is not well defined, as it has been in previous seasons. That is, the many big hitters are not receiving as many precise passes into their kill zones as our championship teams produced.. Poor receiving of serve, which you have pointed out, may be a root cause for numerous imprecise sets. HookemTexas said I feel like the core part of the problem is terrible passing. They can’t control the ball in serve receive (especially Madi). Texas has been spoiled with great back rows having two high level transfers the past two seasons. This year there was no high level third defensive specialist which forced them to have 1 hitter to play the back row and that’s who atm and Missouri attacked on the serve. Actually beat me to it, but there is no reason not to repeat it!
  18. GH, do you have more details? After the first scrimmage several of the players were quoted with positive comments about each other and the willingness to share the ball and defend the perimeter. Someone remarked that the team appeared ten deep, not eight. Perhaps that was over-exuberance. So what do you hear this time, and are there any video clips?
  19. Is Logan Eggleston in the broadcast booth? Would you agree that Devin was most effective [specifically] as an Opposite tonight?
  20. Intentionally coaching basketball to be played at a very slow pace is unhealthy, obviously. Seriously, I hope he is OK.
