Rhett Lashlee advises Texas HS coaches to “insert” themselves into their player’s recruitments. Says that the state of Texas doesn’t better than anyone. Fritz also talked about the dangers of too many people in recruits ears. Encouraged coaches to be a bigger part of that as well.

Mike Elko was asked if he prioritized retaining players or acquiring talent… says their No. 1 job is retaining talent. “We were really proud of the fact that we had the lowest amount of transfers in the SEC”

Elko says he’s excited about the foundation they have laid at Texas A&M. Didn’t get into many specifics about his team, but had a lot of praise for Texas HSFB coaches.

Traylor is entering his 7th season at UTSA and says the last two years has been frustrating. Says keeping their QB was a big deal and believes RB Will Henderson is “one of the best around”

Muschamp says recruiting the state of Texas is somewhat tricky due to players receiving such great coaching in school, lifting since 7th grade. The question when recruiting the state of Texas is how much better can they potentially be when they get to UT.

Muschamp just described Earl Thomas as “one of the best I’ve ever coached” due to his instincts.

Ty Allert | Linebacker (1982–85) Allert finished his career with 287 tackles and 27 sacks, while earning All-Southwest Conference honors and Texas team MVP honors as a senior in 1985. He helped lead the Longhorns to the 1983 Southwest Conference championship, served as a team captain, and was selected in the fourth round of the 1986 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. 2. Malcolm Minnick | Defensive End (1971–73) A three-year letterman, Minnick earned first-team All-Southwest Conference honors in 1973, all while helping the Longhorns capture three consecutive SWC championships from 1971–73. He was a reliable force on a defense that helped keep Texas among the nation’s elite. 48 days until kickoff. 🤘

We’re 49 days away from kickoff, so today’s countdown turns to one of the more uncommon jersey numbers in Texas football history. 1. Aaron Humphrey (LB/DE | 1996–99) Humphrey is the clear headliner for No. 49. A first-team All-Big 12 selection in 1997 and Texas’ team MVP in 1999, he finished his career with 50.5 tackles for loss and 24.5 sacks. One of the most productive pass rushers the program has seen. 2. Jack Collins Jr. (HB | 1958–61) One of Darrell Royal’s early offensive stars, Collins led Texas in rushing, receiving, total offense and all-purpose yards during the 1959 season while earning All-Southwest Conference honors. He helped the Longhorns capture conference championships and was later inducted into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor. Current No. 49: Jake Collett The current owner of No. 49 is freshman kicker Jake Collett, from Heritage High School in Georgia.

As part of our 100 days to kickoff countdown, each day we take a look at some of the the best Longhorns to wear that corresponding number. Today we are exactly 50 days away, so here are some of the best Horns to ever wear No. 50: 1. Bobby Wuensch - Offensive Tackle A consensus All-American in 1970, two-time first-team All-SWC selection and co-captain of Texas’ 1970 national championship team. Wuensch was later inducted into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor. 2. Bill Wyman - Center A consensus All-American in 1973, two-time first-team All-SWC selection and Lombardi Trophy finalist. Darrell Royal considered Wyman the best center he ever coached. 3. Cedric Woodard - Defensive Lineman Woodard finished his Texas career with 40 tackles for loss, including 19 during the 1999 season. He was later selected by the Baltimore Ravens and played six seasons in the NFL. 4. Tyson King - Linebacker King recorded 346 career tackles, one of the highest totals in Texas history. He led the Longhorns with 137 tackles in 1995 and was a key piece of back-to-back conference championship teams. There is not a current No. 50 on the roster. Who is your favorite?

No. 51 is one of those jersey numbers that doesn't have a long list of household names, but these three are pretty easy to separate once you dig through the history... 1. Stan Thomas (OT) Thomas was a First-Team All-American and First-Team All-SWC selection in 1990, helped lead Texas to a Southwest Conference championship and became a first-round NFL Draft pick (No. 22 overall) by the Bears. That's a résumé nobody else wearing No. 51 can match. 2. Bruce Scholtz (LB) If there's someone who can make a case against Thomas, it's Scholtz. He was a First-Team All-SWC linebacker, piled up 351 career tackles (still among the best in school history), and was a second-round NFL Draft pick. One of the most productive linebackers Texas has ever had. 3. Donald Hawkins (OT) Hawkins rounds out the list. He started 24 games at left tackle, earned Second-Team All-Big 12 honors in 2013, and went on to play in the NFL. He doesn't have the accolades of Thomas or the career production of Scholtz, but he's the clear No. 3 for me. The current No. 51 is offensive lineman John Turntine III out of North Crowley.

We’re down to 52 days until kickoff, so today’s countdown spot goes to some pretty solid names in burnt orange. Samuel Cosmi turned into one of the best offensive tackles Texas has had in recent years, earned second-team All-America honors in 2020, was first-team All-Big 12 that same season, and wound up as a second-round NFL Draft pick. He also did something you almost never see from a Texas offensive lineman: scoring a rushing touchdown. Charlie Tanner deserves some love too. He was a dependable piece of the offensive line in the late 2000s, played in 45 games with 33 starts, earned all-conference recognition, and started every game for the 2009 Big 12 championship team that played for the national title. DJ Campbell played in 50 games with 43 starts and became a steady presence up front over the last few years. He was a big part of the lines that helped Texas reach back-to-back College Football Playoffs and the 2024 SEC Championship Game. Current No. 52 is freshman defensive lineman James Johnson.
