With the Longhorns set to hit the field for the start of preseason practice next week, it’s time for On Texas Football to provide a pre-camp snapshot of the Texas depth chart. This is what we expect the depth chart to look like when the Longhorns open camp, not a projection of what it will look like when the first official depth chart is released for the Sept. 5 season opener against Texas State. The high school signees (including John Meredith III) and additional players picked up from the transfer portal who weren’t with the team for spring practice have been added to the depth chart, as they weren't included in our post-spring practice snapshot. According to Steve Sarkisian, Texas will enter camp with a healthy team. Except for offensive lineman Kaden Scherer, who suffered a serious knee injury early in spring practice, the players who missed all or parts of spring practice while recovering from surgery or injuries are on the depth chart. University athletic programs are not profit generators for the vast majority of universities. Varsity Sports are extracurricular opportunities for their students to represent the University in athletic competitions. Intramural sports are on campus activities open to all student participation levels at the University's expense. Economic models like capitalism and socialism are inappropriate, at best. 🤘🏻🤘🏼🤘🤘🏽🤘🏾🤘🏿

The pros are a free labor market. The have player associations. College student athletes still have academic requirements at most universities. The NCAA is broken and only its University members are maintaining its illusion of relevance for the media cash flow it enables.

I can't stand the Cowboys, so I was expecting to see Tony obviously drunk. I didn't watch all of the sobriety tests, but he was cordial and didn't appear intoxicated at all IMO.

The NFL caps, rules, and boundaries are collectively bargained. These rules would be imposed. Big difference. Schools can pay, up to $20 mil. Players can ask ("demand"). Schools can say no. Players can go elsewhere. It's how the American economy works. I don't see a difference between a school paying, or "real" NIL, or under the table. Until there is a contract between the schools and athletes, there *shouldn't* be any rules. Why is college athletics the one place in which the federal government should be allowed to set maximum pay? But you do get it right at the end. They need collective bargaining, and the B1G and SEC will fight any pay limit that materially affects them. When the NCAA set the cap at zero dollars, people cheated because the talent was more valuable than that, and as time has gone on, the value has become much greater. The issue is that the schools don't want to bargain collectively. They want federal law to impose rules. Admins and coaches in football and basketball are making money, schools are making money. It's not right, not fair to the athletes not to be able to make as much as they can. After all, without athletes, there are no games.

I am a huge Tony Romo fan and I thought he was underrated by many and too maligned by most. I am sure the Cowboy haters are cheering this but they are just sad little people, IMO.

Why do you think it is that important? If it's not illegal, and there's no collectively bargained contract, people get to spend their money the way they want. Freedom of association and freedom to contract -- it's the American way.

Big outside body probably isn’t accurate, only six feet tall. He was used in a variety of roles, slot, outside, backfield at times. I love the intermediate game for Stewart, but he was very good with the ball in his hands as well. I don’t know verified times for him, but there’s definite wiggle in his game

Very curious to see how long this lasts. Some schools in parts of the state like SETX and Houston are going to get screwed by humidity more than anyone else. And to make it worse, there's currently only two HS indoor facilities in the Houston area. One is in Barbers Hill, it's super old, and it isn't a full field 100-yard field with end zones. The other is a full field at CE King IIRC, but there's no A/C and they just open up the garage doors. North Shore is currently building one that I believe will also be shared with Galena Park HS, but man, that's still only 3 indoor facilities for 4 HS teams. And one of those (Barbers Hill) really isn't even in the Houston area

@CJ Vogel...I don’t know a ton about Stewart --- what was he like in high school? Was he more of a technician even back then, or did he play more as a big outside body? Always good to hear about guys grinding their way up the depth chart, especially in a room this loaded.

Love that nugget on Chris Stewart. Buzz this offseason about bishop and Brown, easy to lose him in the fold.

I absolutely love watching Mosley. The dude just gets it. Some WRs win because they’re freaks ... Mosley wins because he’s a surgeon. He understands leverage, he understands pacing, he understands how to manipulate a DB’s hips, and he’s always two steps ahead in the route. He’s one of those guys who looks open even before he actually is.
