We will agree to disagree. Hills first game as a pro was 74.4. The rest would not give me a specific number PFF but said that he had regressed in that metric. Again game 1 only as a pro a bit over 60 blitz metric. It also said he was near mid 50s as a run stop. Game 1 only. And while I do agree its championship or bust with this team minus injuries...the defense has had less points scored against more havoc plays and more sacks ( although a skewed number given the game against Tenn.) Throw in that the Texas offense has been less efficient (drives of 4 plays or more) turned the ball over more times and had a higher 3rd and distance than the first 4 games of the seasons 2022-2025. Part of that is coaching...part of it opponents..part dumb luck. This offense should be significantly better than last year given the level of talent + years of exp. With that said 2022: 21.6 PPG (281 total points allowed in 13 games) via Texas Athletics 2023: 18.9 PPG (265 total points allowed in 14 games) via Sports Reference 2024: 15.3 PPG (245 total points allowed in 16 games) via Sports Reference 2025: 20.3 PPG (264 total points allowed in 13 games) via Sports Reference 2026 (Through 4 games): 13.2 PPG (53 total points allowed) via Sports Reference This again can be skewed but there is no doubt that the only defense that performed at or near the current defense is 2024. Lot of football left so lets see how it shakes out.

Hill. I ask again where does that originate? The blitz rates that is. PFF. In 2025, Hill’s coverage rate was 74.4% of pass plays. In 2024, Hill’s coverage rate was 84.5%. In 2023, Hill’s coverage rate was 73%. So 2023 and 2025 were similar but 2024 was dissimilar. Now I believe Hill played more Dline in 2025 too so perhaps the blitz rate was different. Blitz rate could be lower but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t rushing the passer. 2025 also had Spence, Moore and others to mix in some rush. Also, this far the NFL is treating Hills higher value as a coverage guy. I am open to more information, better information. That does not accurately depict the Ohio State game. What will constitute this defense as a championship level defense is winning a championship, which is TBD. Many defenses are multiple. That’s what Will is. He proved that Saturday. PK was that too. Certainly the approaches are different but they aren’t entirely different in every scenario. Theres lots to be excited about this year, no doubt.
