The Film Guy Break shows we are in trouble with Arch
Thanos72 replied to Levester White's topic in On Texas Football Forum
You have no idea. None of us do but it’s neither sark nor arch. It’s both but it’s a leader’s job to effectively, and efficiently, recognize the coachees floor/ceiling. Arch was raised to not make waves and sark likes to joystick too much. It’s not a great combo. -

I HOPE he does the right thing after this season. I think a lot depends on how the rest of the season plays out. If he fails to make the playoffs, I don't see how CDC can let him do nothing and expect things to get better. That would mean CDC is pulling a Deloss Dodds and not telling the king he's naked. I don't see CDC as that type of AD. It's obvious Sark has a reality problem, and he needs positive intervention from a superior outside his direct circle. I'm hoping CDC is that type of AD. -

Watching the film guy tonight, you may be right. Not only did Brooks criticize Arch, but he did the same with Connor Robertson -

I bet those dudes regretted those cigars on the plane ride home. We don't have anyone on our team like Orakpo who kept everyone in line. Simmons laughing after the OU game just further demonstrates his immaturity.

If you watch Brook's analysis, he breaks down the routes. He shows the check downs that Arch is not using. Sark is not the problem. He is stubborn and a bit of an ass, but what football coach isn't? Arch is the issue. The dude has been in the program for 4 years, and this is his 2nd starting. He is way behind where his development should be... He is not understanding the concepts. That's on Arch. -
D. Moore and Parker Livingston's Impact on Arch
Jordan91 replied to Levester White's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I don’t think Arch can be fixed. He’s four years in and has been developed by some of the best quarterbacks to play this game his whole life. He can’t see the field, he has an anxiety attack when he is blitzed, he doesn’t know where the line of scrimmage is, and holds the ball instead of throwing it away. That is all after being raised with NFL talent around him and four years of college football coaching. What else can be done? What are they going to say this week that hasn’t been said before? What film will they watch that they didn’t watch before? Is it going to suddenly kick in? They will look better because the defenses they face over the next few games are not that good, but he has not looked right all year. That is after a second half of last year where it looked like he had figured it out. He’s not a national championship quarterback and that is the goal this year. -
I'm all in on Arch. Kid had 37 TDS vs 7 turnovers last year. They brought in new pieces -- that's on the staff to find the recipe. Can't ask the kid to play hero ball constantly. He can make all the throws.

Absolutely. You understand what I’m saying. - Today

I would argue you have a Mateer inflated doll next to your pillow
-
I still would argue Arch is very, very good throwing the deep pass.

Sark made Mac Jones look like a hero, cmon now. Just because Arch isn’t working doesn’t mean Sark can’t plug QBs in this Scheme.

The Film Guy Break shows we are in trouble with Arch

I actually disagree about the OL being bad or the problem. I watched the all 22 (just Arch's plays) and he had time to throw and make reads on most of his drop backs. There are issues with communication and slide protections but overall they actually did a good job at the point of attack. Now the run game I'll have to see more of because I didn't see the all 22 of that. But when he has time to throw, he has nowhere to go, guys are still running their routes. When his protection breaks down, guys still have their backs to him or are covered. There's very rarely something for him to dump it to and when there is he doesn't see it for whatever reason. People want to blame Arch and the OL. But the problem is Sark, that's where it starts. He's the guy running the program, running the offense and coaching up these guys. He's the one in charge of Milwee, Flood, etc. It's easy to just blame Arch but when you don't plat to what your QB does well and instead having everyone running 20 yards downfield for a route, when you know teams are bringing pressure is weird. Now If I'm going to pick on an OL player, it's Robertson specifically. The C is the most important position on the OL. All the blitz pick ups, communication, etc. They start from there. Several times I see Arch walking up to the LOS to point things out and I didn't see Robertson do any of that. Sikorski tries to help him out a lot but he's also trying to make sure no one's in his lane. Not sure if there will be changes there or who you even put there. Do you move Sikorski to C or Christian to C? Because just from watching the play from that all 22 he seems like the biggest issue there. Especially for a 5th year guy, that is a bit concerning. Anyway, just my two cents for whatever it's worth. We'll see what he does this week against Florida but I'm not really excepting anything different. -

Arch looked pretty horrible out of 11 personnel on Saturday. He's even throwing to players in double coverage when there are guys breaking open all over the place. This is even without pressure. It's really hard to tell what he's even seeing out there. He's definitely not ready for the NFL, but I'm not sure you can bring him back either. Would be a massive PR hit if he leaves and has success elsewhere though.

D. Moore and Parker Livingston's Impact on Arch
HonkEm replied to Levester White's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I don't disagree that Arch needs to be better, but saying he's the problem and not the receivers oversimplifies it. The question is why he's hesitating on throws and not pulling the trigger when guys are open. Is that poor decision-making, a lack of confidence, the offensive scheme, or coaching? It could be a combination of things. I'm not making excuses for Arch, but Sark is responsible for developing him and putting him in positions to succeed, too. Identifying Arch as the problem is one thing; figuring out why he's struggling and how to fix it is another. -
D. Moore and Parker Livingston's Impact on Arch
HonkEm replied to Levester White's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I think the question you're asking is a fair one. You're not saying the receivers are the problem or making excuses for Arch. You're wondering why he's playing so hesitantly and whether there are contributing factors beyond his individual performance. That's a legitimate question. At the same time, I think the biggest thing to figure out is whether he's failing to recognize opportunities, not trusting what he's seeing, or being put in situations where the reads aren't clear. Those are different problems with potentially different solutions. -
His legs for one. He also has a live arm and can make every throw in the book, albeit not consistently (yet), which forces teams to respect the deep ball especially with our WRs. I would like to see more play action that takes advantage of these two threats, as well as more designed keepers.

He can run but all knowing Sark to that away.
