  2. Agree completely, as an alcoholic in recovery it is my responsibility to ensure that I’m taking care of myself and not burying my head in the sand hiding from alcohol nor is it anyone’s responsibility to change their behavior on my behalf. Gambling has become so widespread and available that it’s going to be really hard to keep these guys for not doing it. Betting on their own games is a big no-no akin to insider trading. But the solution isn’t to act as if this isn’t everywhere and these guys have the disposable income to play and try and increase their profits. It’s always been lurking under the surface in sports and I would hope that the regulating bodies will create education and harsh enough penalties that will help to manage the temptation to gamble. I hope the young man gets treatment and relief in recovery.
  3. Sounds like a certain coach and his benefactor didn't do their due diligence.

  5. I get where you’re coming from, but this feels like putting the blame in the wrong place and honestly, it seems a bit dramatic. Podcasts like On Texas Football aren’t the ones causing gambling problems—people making irresponsible decisions are. Sports betting exists whether a podcast takes ads or not, and acting like removing sponsorships is going to protect “thousands of families” is a stretch. Also, there’s a big difference between promotion and personal responsibility. We don’t expect broadcasters to stop airing alcohol ads because some people abuse drinking, and the same logic applies here. A quick disclaimer is fine, but asking platforms to completely cut off a legal revenue stream just because it can be misused doesn’t really hold up. And honestly, if anything, transparency is better than pretending it doesn’t exist. Fans are already exposed to betting everywhere—from TV broadcasts to social media—so singling out one podcast to “just say no” feels more symbolic than effective.
  6. Thank you ! I have urged OTF for months talking about Gambling & the damage it causes to the athletes & coaches as well as entire 40 acres I have most recently suggested OTF quit advertising bookie businesss .. OTF is by far in my opinion the most reputable podcast covering all aspects of Texas athletics. But basically covering our Football program. Bobby Burton knows this business better than, The other podcasts owners in my opinion . OTF could be a pioneer in my opinion. Others would follow Bobby’s lead . A disclaimer stating Gambling is illegal in some instances & is highly addictive. College podcasts are being bombarded by Bookie business’s easy money for the podcast but it’s hurting thousands of subscribers families. Time for podcasts to just simply “ Just say no “ a phrase i borrowed from the late Nancy Reagan.
  7. Listened to a Tech podcast in which they tried to argue that Cincinnati and Indiana rather than Sorsby should be punished. Crazy hypocrisy. Sorby is the one who gambled, not the institutions.
  8. With Indiana & Cincinnati in bc all likelihood knowing this & Tech as well; is lack of institutional control an issue here?
  9. @Bobby Burton my guess is the new facility will ready for training camp in August with the “ Grand Opening “ public celebration just before the 1st game.
  10. https://x.com/Direct_Cupdates/status/2049456363336589434 UCLA, Florida have chances to add significant points in Tennis this weekend if they can advance. Stanford could too but the gain would be limited as they have sports already expected to score around 60 points. Texas needs to see both Tennis teams advance, either not advancing would lead to a significant score drop. 1 seed Stanford, 2 seed Texas, 3 seed UCLA in beach volleyball this weekend as well. Any change better or worse this weekend would adjust predicted score as well.
  11. There probably is not much news from sources. All we can do is speculate. He has a great roster, but two more players with experience would make a difference.
  12. This thread has more views and posts than any other thread on this site so we appreciate you taking the time to come and say something. Knowing that @Bobby Burtonhas the BEST sources in the program, and not hearing ANYTHING, makes this situation look like it could really be bad. Bobby and the rest of the staff normally don't ignore requests for info and it's been crickets in the biggest thread on the site.
  13. Manning and Williams would be a pretty splashy first round for the Jets.
  14. I'll speak for myself and not the rest of the staff, but I can tell you that if I had information to share, I'd share. The best I can describe the flow of information coming from the women's program right now (again, this is my personal opinion) is that a lot of intel is being kept close to the vest.
  15. What is the plan for the Denius practice fields and the current indoor bubble? Will it be redeveloped?
  16. Great article Bobby . I hear the indoor facility is going to be state of art . Excited about seeing it & hearing you & staff telling us about it as well as recruits impressions.
  17. How’s the internet today, Bobby?
  18. Recruiting. It hasn’t been front of mind for many given spring training just closed, but it is really starting to heat up behind the scenes. Texas sits at nine commitments. That’s a solid amount. Yet with the month of April coming to an end, we will likely see that number at least double in the next 60 days. So naturally, recruiting is a primary focus inside the building. A few recruits will make decisions in the next 15-30 days, while most are targeting a June decision. A few others will take it into the football season. For Texas over the next month, it will be about closing out a couple of those major recruitments while getting ready for the large recruiting weekends in June. It’s all about setting things up right and then getting it all to the end. As of now, I like where Texas sits with this recruiting class. And more importantly, they like where they sit. ** Many of you have asked about the new indoor facility and the timing of its opening. The current plan is to have the indoor facility ready for football’s regular season. A grand opening is tentatively planned for the week before the football season opener. That means the Horns will use the Denius practice fields in August before rotating into the indoor facility come late August, early September. Texas will be able to show off parts of the new facility during recruiting weekends. View full news story
