57 Days Until Kickoff — Who’s Your Fav No. 57?
Blake Munroe replied to Blake Munroe's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Mike Ruether, an offensive lineman for the University of Texas Longhorns from 1980 to 1983, had a notable collegiate career with several accolades. In 1983, he was named a first-team All-American by multiple selectors, recognizing him as one of the top players in the nation. He also earned first-team All-Southwest Conference (SWC) honors that same year, highlighting his dominance in the conference. Ruether was a key contributor to the 1983 Longhorns team, which won the SWC championship and finished the regular season undefeated, earning a No. 2 national ranking before competing in the Cotton Bowl. - Today

Felix Ojo is ranked right under Jackson Cantwell in the composite rankings who received an NIL package of 2-2.5 mil a year from Miami. His agent will do everything they can to get him in that ballpark range. With that being said, Ojo is a developmental player and would not start year 1 at Texas or any other serious playoff contender. That would be a lot of money sitting on the bench. Ojo has loved the recruiting process and hopefully Sark/Flood already saw this coming……

While we burn wieners and toast America today, remember that the program as a whole is in a better place today than it was this time last year. No matter what happens today it can’t be any worse than last year right. Hook em and God Bless the USA.
-
And you know this how? Texas will have a top 5 class again as usual on December.
-
This is such a bad take. It’s different with the House Settlement. Why are kids going to other schools? More NIL. NIL doesn’t grow on trees, Texas won’t have more NIL in Dec (and even if it did, some of these players are already signing contracts). You cannot compare this year to any year previously.
-
Don't think Texas views it the same way. One of my favorite recruiting stories from last year is that DK Moore asked Texas for tickets to the Georgia game in Austin. Texas told him no. You can guess why.
-
Because they said we would get Turntine. And that is what is happening. Good in state next year also.
-
We are starting to see more of it. There have been several in this cycle that have done that. Just me, but if I was a prospect and wanted to have my announcement I would do the same or not tell the teams until 15-20 mins prior. The news always trickles out from the ones that don’t get the player 95% of the time. Now, I would take the time to call the remaining staffs from the final few after the announcement and say thank you and whatever else a player wants to … in case things change. It’s not a popular opinion , but I don’t have a problem with someone trying to keep the lid on their news as much as possible.

Jim started following Drew Rerick to Portal

Maybe his performance was an eye opener for him and his family so they are taking the sure thing?

As big of a headache as his recruitment has been, I'm not sure I would want to throw big dollars at someone who is this flaky. It's clear the people in his camp value the big NIL $$ more than his development. He may go to Lubbock as a 5* but I can almost guarantee he won't leave there as one, ask Micah Hudson what Lubbock does with 5* recruits...

OTF Premium Update on Jamarion Carlton (9:30 a.m.)
Cozer replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
NIL agent for Carlton is also a Temple and Baylor alum. That works in their favor but Texas is still in it. -
There's the locker room dynamic of this as well. To this point, there hasn't been a team that ridiculously overpaid high school recruits and made it work with team culture and chemistry. Aggy '22 class being a prime example. Legally, I'd guess some things will happen quickly. The likelihood of the clearing house being able to reject third party payments is preposterous on its face. I can't think of a high profile example of anything like it in US history. I doubt the "affiliated" cap on NIL deals last very long, but it may make it through this cycle. What's affiliated? Who decides? The clearing house is not a disinterested third party. All to say, those schools that have kept spending like there's no tomorrow will at best face a period of legal limbo that's unlikely to permit them to hang on to most of the funny money deals.
-
Doesn’t the clearinghouse weigh in on whether the NIL is at market rather than a work around sham? It’s not about how much the athlete is worth. The market determines what they are worth

Sark always seems to be ahead of the curve. When I read Bobby’s comments it makes me think he isn’t ahead of the curve anymore. How could any coach be ahead of the curve? House settlement says go this way, some schools say no let’s go this way, athlete says I am not happy, so it’s back to the courts again. Texas is not the only school with this problem. That’s the positive side of things. We wait to see what happens to those who are not following the settlement in the courts.
-
Not something that needs to be called out by name but those athletes should be commended for the team first mentality. I dont recall seeing this anywhere else. Thanks Bobby
-
Likely not paying attention to the settlement at all. It all goes back to determining what a player is worth. What school is qualified to determine that? What clearinghouse is qualified to do that? So it heads back to the courts.
