Three days until kickoff and No. 3 has been worn by some absolute dudes at Texas. Nathan Vasher finished with 155 tackles, 64 pass breakups and a school-record 17 interceptions. He was also an elite punt returner and earned All-America honors twice. Quinn Ewers threw for 9,128 yards and 68 touchdowns. He went 27-9 as a starter, won the 2023 Big 12 championship and led Texas to back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinals. Mossy Cade recorded 11 interceptions and earned first-team All-America honors in 1983. He helped Texas win the Southwest Conference and was later selected sixth overall in the NFL Draft. Hodges Mitchell rushed for 2,664 yards and had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. He also earned first-team All-Big 12 honors twice. Jordan Hicks finished with 248 tackles and 22.5 tackles for loss. He recorded 147 tackles in 2014 and earned second-team All-America honors. Rasheem Biles and Emmett Mosley V will wear No. 3 for Texas this season. Who y’all taking?

I was listening to Macarena in the background in my apartment in Frisco, TX on 26 June 1996 eating a supreme burrito from Taco Bell while watching the NBA draft on TNT when it was announced the Lakers actually drafted 17 year old Kobe at number 13 by trading Vlade Divac for the rights to Kobe. I'd been hearing that Jerry West loved Kobe after watching him whip butt on Michael Cooper at the Inglewood YMCA a few weeks earlier. West engineered a trade to draft Kobe which cleared cap space to sign Shaq at the same time. The next day I watched Jerry West say Kobe was the key to multiple championships during an ESPN interview.

I think he's also underestimating having a brand new OL in front of him. He has good WR weapons, that is certain. But a new playcaller who's never called plays. I don't know much about their RB room, Reuben Owens is good, right? Not sure what they returned on their D either. But he's going to either be running more or under more pressure this year. We'll see how he does.

Last season, Connelly’s top 5 “prediction” for the CFB Playoffs were: Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, and UGA. So, three of those 5 didn’t even make the Playoffs (ND, PSU, and Mich). To give Connelly some credit, he was one of the very few to correctly predict Clemson would NOT make the Playoffs last season (Joel Klatt predicted a Clemson vs Penn State national championship…LOL). For me, these silly simulations point out the relative weakness and imbalance between the depth of the SEC and the other conferences. For example, 3 Big Ten teams are all more likely to make the Playoffs than ANY SEC team (which has an auto bid…LOL). It reveals that for the top teams of the Big Ten, there is very little risk of losing conference games against many of the lesser Big Ten programs. By contrast, with the SEC adding a 9th conference game to each schedule, it’s much more likely SEC Playoff contenders will lose conference games and thus fail to make the Playoffs. Also, a school like Tech effectively gets an automatic bid to the Playoffs because there’s very little chance any other Big 12 school can beat them during conference play. The Big 12 is effectively a one-team conference for Playoff purposes. Thus, Tech is a Playoff shoo-in. It’s important to understand that for all the silliness of Connelly’s simulations, they are not measures of how good or bad a team will be. Instead, they take a proprietary quantitative-derived metric (S+P) of a team, and then run it against the all other teams on the schedule by the same metric, to get a likelihood of your season-end record. For this article, it then runs a million simulations of all college FBS football games / records to derive the likelihood of a school making the Playoffs.

Roy was great one, but there were a few huge drops at the worst times and I think people remember those. I remember one dropped TD in a Holday Bowl that we lost by a small margin to Oregon or Wazzup. He's still a solid #4 pick.

This is actual BS. He never had under 50 yds in a single loss from his Sophomore through Senior year. He wasn’t a QB, obviously. Any WR can be neutralized. A very good RB can also be neutralized by stacking the box. Hell, a good QB can be neutralized by dropping 8 into coverage. When that happens, the offense shifts to take advantage of the vulnerabilities made by the defense keying on The Dude. Roy Williams stats vs OU So through Sr (all losses) So: 5 for 65 Jr: 2 for 68 (OU scored 35) Sr: 7 for 89 (OU scored 65) There was little Roy could have done to keep up with OU his Jr and Sr years.

Reed is an underwhelming QB. With his frame and chicken legs, I will be surprised if he even makes it to our late season matchup. Now, I don't wish injury on him or any player, but he will be lucky if he is healthy for the second half of the season. 6'1", 185lbs? jeez.
