25-26 Director's Cup Thread
DirectorsCupUpdates replied to DirectorsCupUpdates's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Softball does their job in making the task of winning the DC as easy as possible for the track teams. Now it’s baseballs turn to add 9 points, and again, make the task easier for track and field. -

Quinncent McManning, Jr. replied to Quinncent McManning, Jr.'s topic in On Texas Football Forum
I’m sure aggy will find a way to pay for these guys and portal guys (and jimbos contract lol) but how many of these guys will wait around to start is another question -
I was wondering if that was true as well mods???

There should be a virtual reality coaching game. Maybe linked to Prize Picks. So here's all the info you need to build your roster from the current recruits. Where are the weaknesses? Where do you look in the portal? Go. We have 25 players as of today. Here is the expanded combined Texas Longhorns softball roster for the 2027 season: returning veterans (non-graduating players from the 2026 team) + the 2025 additions (now sophomores with 2026 freshman performance metrics) + eligible 2026 portal transfers (now juniors) + the 2026 high school recruits (incoming freshmen with national recruiting rankings, awards, and accomplishments). My thoughts: 1. Elko knows he got lucky this past season, and this season will be more difficult. So, he will be able to get people to look past the loses this coming year and be able to point to future of a highly ranked recruiting class. 2. No matter how much money you pour into highschool recruiting, the hit rate will always be the same, even for 5 star guys. They are putting so much of their money into development vs. performance it's going to create an imbalance and wasted funds on development. When the high priced development guys actually hit the performance phase, they are going to demand higher pay. The A&M budget won't be able to pay all these guys for performance, so something will have to give and other schools will reap the benefit of all the money A&M spent to just roster and develop a kid when they transfer out.

We’ll see if it works out for elko because it sure as hell didn’t for fisher. -
I don't want to sound like a homer, but having a top 5 signing class in 2027 and beyond just means that you won't have money for the portal. The portal is a superior way to find proven talent. Signing class ranking no longer tell the whole story.

You’re right. These players are special and love Texas. I’m just scarred from WBB portal season. 😂

It's going to be tough for Elko to keep that spigot open without high level results. My guess is that 1/2 if not more of these top 50/100 players transfer out when they don't live up to expectations and won't take a pay cut or they do perform and want another payday. -
The ball being bigger unquestionably makes it easier to hit. Do you think a bowling ball is not easier to make contact with than a bb, at equal speed? A straight 97 mph fastball is easier to hit than an 87 mph slider with high spin rate. Anyone who watches baseball knows this. You have more reaction time with the slider but it’s moving away from your bat during that extra time so it’s harder to hit. You cannot survive in MLB throwing nothing but straight 97 mph fastballs. You have to sacrifice reaction time for movement.
