Joey McGuire is a mid football coach of a mid football program who was given a blank check to purchase success. It’s really that simple. Everyone outside of Lubbock knows this to be true.

He sure fell into a favorable situation that most coaches would kill for. It will be interesting to see if his success holds up in a revenue sharing environment.

I guess that's true but how this any different than how Texas approaches the game? Our schedule was much tougher so that's why the record is different but Tech is in the playoff and we are not.

They also had an insanely easy schedule…. Only good win for them was against BYU (twice it seems) but again BYU didn’t play anyone either.

Get ready to see tech in the playoffs every year. Look at this cupcake schedule next year

If we are dumb enough to continue scheduling Ohio State, Michigan etc then I don’t want to hear Sark or Del Conte complain about our schedule. We have control over our non conference schedule. We all know the rules now….only wins and losses count, not level of competition.

Texas Tech is laughing. Texas and OU left the Big XII and they diluted the conference with mediocre teams. TT decides to schedule nobody in non conference play, then can’t even go undefeated in conference play after losing to ASU and they still get a playoff bye.

UT mindset. Play toughest regular season schedule in the nation and then when we don’t make the playoffs,  complain that everyone else played an easier schedule. Either adapt or STFU. Nobody is making us play those games.

They had a great year with a ton of one and done talent in the third strongest conference of the P4. I wouldn’t say they’ve “figured it all out” for the long haul. I don’t see these bills in congress helping them keep a leg up in terms of buying talent.

The sad thing about the big 12 is that without Texas and OU, literally anyone can win in that conference because there's no standouts.  Luckily for tech, they have donors rich enough to flex their money and out spend the rest of the other schools.  There's literally no blue blood or perennial power in the big 12 left.
