Back when Mack was hired shortly after they went on a barn storming tour of Texas cities.  I was at the one in Houston, after his talk to crowd was meeting people.  I got in line, got to him, “ Hey Coach Brown, Mike T}%^, nice to meet you, welcome to Texas.  I am nothing special, as average Joe as you can get.

Fast forward 8-10 years later, they go on another barnstorming tour.  Again I go to the one in Houston.  I get in line, get to Mack, and before I can say a word, he sticks his hand out and says “hey Mike, how ya doing, thanks for coming”.  I kid you not, I was astonished.  I think he has a photographic memory.

Truly, he actually talked about that on his pod cast with Vince and how important it is to remember people’s names knowing what a simple thing like that can really mean to others. I wish I had that super power. I can peer someone and forget their name within the same minute 😢

This happened to a friend of mine. Met Mack in a hallway in Bellmont and talked to him for about 30 seconds. About 10 years later ran into him again somewhere. "Patrick! Good to see you again."

Had the same experience with him.  I went to his introductory celebration in Austin, and they were running late getting him to the Palmer Event Center.  I decided to step outside to satisfy my tobacco habit, and in walked David McWilliams (who I knew) and Coach Brown.  He asked my name, and whether I could punt.  Fast forward 10 or so years and I ran into him again.  He remembered my name and that conversation about punting and he asked if I still had eligibility.  I haven't met anyone before or since that had that unique ability to remember faces/names and the grace to joke about things that make someone like me smile a little wider.

That is remarkable gift that he shares with some of our greatest political figures.  Like Alex wrote, I wish I had a little of that gift.  FDR supposedly could do the same thing, except he could also remember all the names of someone’s family members that he met on the campaign trail several years earlier.

My last name is Royall, and I met Mack at one of those  Houston events in 1999.

One hour later, I asked him a football question in front of a crowd of about 200.

He opened up the answer by saying "I"d expect that type of question coming from a Royall"
