Guess you didn’t watch the S Car vs UCLA game?

I watched every game.  Our best player had the worst game of her career. Vic couldn’t do anything about that.  We can go back to Karen Aston if you want too.  But I bet then we wouldn’t win enough.

Agree. If Madi could’ve just had a mediocre night instead of a horrendous night I think we’d of beat UCLA.

Absolutely.  People say why didn’t Vic pull her.  She is too good to pull. You hope she gets hot and comes out of it.  Can you imagine Vic sitting her down and losing the game by 2 and the backlash he would have received?

Given that WCBB loses money, how can teams be stupid enough to pay 500k for a player? Who makes these decisions?

This is an important part of the equation that is true for both WBB as well as football and any other sport; each of the programs operates under a budget.  I believe Vic's responsibility is also to sustain a highly competitive team year in and year out and in today's world that includes managing the NIL appropriately.

I have a friend who coaches tennis, he says he always asks new students - do you want to learn to win or do you want to have fun and look cool?  Because those are two different things, I can teach you to win, but it will be boring and repetitious because you have to master the basics and execution, but you'll win a lot.  I can teach you how to hit a down the line winner past your opponent, but you will most likely error more than you hit winners and lose.  You have to decide what you want.

I think they should have had Madi post up on the block and do her step back fade away. Maybe she could have gotten something going.  Her shot is hard to block.

Vic is definitely “old school “ type coach he may need to adapt a little to the current basketball players. As Nick Saban said “adapt or die”

I dont think most of Nick's players or coaches "enjoyed" the process nor did Nick adapt on that - he adapted more on strategy. Trust the process, enjoy the results.

“If” is an excuse the losing team fans use. UCLA was the better team during the final.

True.
However, Nick retired when players were given the ability to transfer and make NIL money. Vic can adapt or retire. Vic isn’t completely a innocent party on players transfers.

Vic takes transfers, he's not like Dabo where he's refusing to use the portal and NIL.  The discussion is on his coaching style.

Vic may to adapt coaching style or retire like Nick. ( I like Vic, but we all have adapt to current times)

Vic is still pulling in high level players.  He's also got walk-ons (Graves) willing to be there for all four years, and Madi, and Rori.  There are players that will be a fit and there are players that won't.  I think Geno is very much the same way.  Will Vic win it all?  Don't know, hope he does, but I don't think he's at risk of having to adapt as you say.  He's been to back to back final fours.  Now if he fails to make the tourney and the team is terrible as well?  Then I would agree he'd need to adapt.

Everyone loses elite players once in a while - Olivia Miles left Notre Dame last year.  Jordy Bahl left OU softball.  Getting players to stay if a key component of elite teams, but it's not like they don't lose players as well.

The Audi Crooks deal is not doing us any favors jacking up the market. But Vic has to pick up some more bigs and some experienced guards. Only a certain type of player can play at Texas under Vic. They have to value defensive effort first and foremost.  Vic will never change that. And you got to be able to have the fortitude of being coached hard. Getting Vann was a good get but he needs to get more and I'm not sure why we haven't had any more additions yet.

This was the team to win it all this year with the mix of talent and experience. In a lot of ways not winning it all this year, halts the momentum we had with the program. We won't get another run like that for years especially with a generational talent like Booker leaving next year. UCLA was the same way this year but they got to the finish line. Now they have to rebuild as well. Vic won't be able to win it all unless he gets more elite talent.

He does fine maxing out what he's got but it's not a coincidence that South Carolina and UConn are legit contenders to win the whole thing every year because their rosters are loaded with 5* talent. SC had nobody leave in the portal this year so they have continuity as well.

Can Vic get us to the Final Four again? Probably but Final Four vs winning it all is something not even Vic has ever solved. This ship can change directions fast when you don't have enough veteran leadership keeping the culture in tact. That's what I'm most worried about going into next season.

100% agree with the second and fourth paragraphs.  It may not seem like a big deal, but breaking through and winning it all can change the momentum of your program.  This is what might have happened to Mike White and softball if they had not won the natty last season.  He's getting criticized but nowhere near the level it would be if they had not won it all.  You keep getting close and getting close and not breaking through.  That affects the momentum of your program.

You're right about momentum after winning it all.  Coach Elliott for volleyball knocked on the door a ton of times before he finally won one in 2012.  Then 10 years later wins back to back.

Ok. Thanks for explaining that to me.
