Moderators CJ Vogel Posted April 5, 2024 Moderators Posted April 5, 2024 The Longhorns have added a piece to their 2024 recruiting class with the announcement from Austin Westlake K Spencer Barnett Friday afternoon. Barnett will join the Longhorns as a walk-on kicker, adding to the pipeline of Westlake Chaps on roster in 2024. Barnett had previously been committed to Colorado State, though opts to stay home and join the Longhorns. Texas is adding a huge leg with Barnett here. View full news 8 Quote

syracusehorn Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 For a HS kicker, he's got a great swing. Tons of potential. 4 Quote
Rick Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 This got me wondering about the longest field goals in HS. The national record is 68 yards by a kid in Nevada in 1985, The Texas record is 67 by Russell Cowsert of Dallas Christian in 1987. There have been 27 FG's over 60 yards, 5 of them on free kicks after fair catches. 4 Quote
NothinButDaHorns34 Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 (edited) 59 yard field goal? Wow! If that translates to college he’ll be just fine Edited April 5, 2024 by NothinButDaHorns34 Quote

watty7796 Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 (edited) If the kid can punt and kick it would save a spot on the travel team. Edited April 5, 2024 by watty7796 Quote
GoHorns1 Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 (edited) CJ, does he use a tee for his field goals & PATs? Edited April 5, 2024 by GoHorns1 Quote

My memory may be faulty, but I thought a Newman Smith kicker (my alma mater) kicked a 60 yard FG against LD Bell in the playoffs in the early 80's. He got a scholly to Mizzou. 1 Quote

Jarveaux Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 If Barnett kicked a 59 yard FG in High School isn’t it reasonable to believe with improved leg strength & more practice that he could kick 61 yards or perhaps even better in college.🤘 Quote
