PAY DA MAN !!!

I saw this on The Athletic - "Texas spent a pretty penny — close to $3 million, we’re told — to bring in Cam Coleman from Auburn and to give quarterback Arch Manning one of the best receiver groups in the country."

Question: If Cam is getting "close to $3 million" as an experienced productive transfer then what is a fair market valuation for freshmen recruits Easton Royal or Monshun Sales ?  And could you justify paying both? (I'd assume they would warrant roughly equal NIL deals since they are ranked #1 and #2 WRs).

Also, while I'm here, the same article asked "Is it [the Texas WR room] the best? One Power 4 personnel staffer sees some flaws."

Flaws?  Flaws?  What are you talking about dude!

Here's what the P4 "personnel staffer" had to say - (guessing he works for a jealous rival).

"Coleman is their best receiver with a great catch radius, but I don’t think he’s a burner,” he said. “Ryan Wingo is your best athlete, but not a real good receiver. Emmett Mosley is your best overall receiver, but doesn’t have long speed. They all have flaws that can limit them if you have really good corners. Week 2 (versus Ohio State) will be the test.”

Actually haven't seen anyone claim we had the "best" WRs, just that we had upgraded the position with Coleman, but whatever.

Interesting take on our WR room.  If they want to see "long speed" I hope we unleash Bishop on their sorry asses.

I don't think Texas would pay either Royal or Sales Cam Coleman money out of the gate. Coleman was/is proven at the SEC level. They'll both command good money but it would be recruiting malpractice to shell out that much for HS recruits. That's not to say they can't get to that level in college though.

Isn't the question whether a freshman receiver should receive a $3MM pay day? Cam is a third-year player. Not apple to apples. I'm not saying don't pay him but I thought one of the emerging themes was paying players at a level when they will make an actual impact.

Even over worthy no shot right ?

Worthy lost track season as junior to COVID, so hard to ever know what he would have put up in track. He went 10.5 as a sophomore, so not likely 10.2 ... but who knows.

Rare athlete. Very rare.

Who does he compare to the most because I don’t remember too many WR recruits with his size, skill and speed combination?

Royal is faster but I think about Jaylen Waddle in terms of comp.

Where are you getting the $3mm price tag for Royal?

Gerry and I discussed this. He reminds me of a more athletic Devin Duvernay. Same build, same elite (10.2) speed. I just think Royal has more fluidity to his game.

Which will last until sark offers Dillon Mitchell 🥸🥸🥸🥸😂😂😂😂

Shoot, Mitchell might just be headed straight to the track after college.

If he is still posting 10.1 or 10.0 legitimately next year, might be worth the conversation of hanging up the football cleats.

He ran a 9.88 the other day.
