This was back in the late 70's when I was on campus. The album also featured "Ride Like the Wind" which hit # 2 on the Top 100. I think he won 5 Grammys that year. I had a 14' Hobie Cat in those days and every time this song comes on the radio (rarely now) I think of those days sailing on the Austin area lakes. Winner! 1 Quote
robertcook91 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I was born in 1969 and was given my first radio in 1978. I used to sit in my room and listen to Z97, which eventually became Eagle 97 a few years later, a Dallas pop station. Most of the music that I listened to was Supertramp, Little River Band, Toto, the Doobie Brothers, etc. It was just late 70's soft rock. XM came along and gave it a name. 1 Quote
Burnt Orange Horn Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Banana Republic by Steve Goodman, although most will remember it when he played with Jimmy Buffet. Steve was on ACL a couple of times so those are on YT. Also any Cubs fan will be familiar with his baseball songs. Quote
Burnt Orange Horn Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Have to note the later Beach Boys after Pet Sounds and in particular the Sloop John B. Not an original by them, but the definitive version for sure. I think Al Jarrel had to convince Brian Wilson to record it. Then the perfect God Only Knows and the islands themed Kokomo. 1 Quote

Red Five Posted 37 minutes ago Posted 37 minutes ago Didn't read through the thread, but I consider Ride Like the Wind to be the quintessential yacht rock song. Quote
