Baseball Boom: Pitcher Gavin King commits to Texas

RHP Gavin King of Middle Tennessee State has committed to the Longhorns. King visited Texas late last week and was the visitor I spoke of before the dead period. 

The Horns may still add one more arm in the portal.

I know a lot of you will see the stats and scratch your head, which I get. But….

He hasn’t had the best coaching…. Pretty much ever. 

He had a solid back half of the season. 

He was battling back from Tommy John surgery. 

Wiener likes him a lot.

When you already have 2 of the best pitchers in the entire country, seems silly to not have a 3rd reliable / proven arm if you want to win a natty

He has a lot of upside. He is a projected first round pick in a couple of years. Was only a freshman this past season.

Well, since we have three hitting coaches now we should be able to get him to start tapping into that upside.

His stats were impacted by a not-so-good showing in the Super Regional.

They'll likely look to make one of Walls, Winter or Crossland into the third starter.

Hope Crossland can bring it as a starter! Looked promising when his command was on point

His weaknesses sound similar but he’s a power arm with a high K rate when on like 🔥

He hit .296 with 12 home runs as a freshman. He’s pretty good

The better question (which I don’t know the answer to) is how did he hit against the real big10 teams and strong OOC opponents.  Because there is a lot of bad baseball played at the middle/bottom of the big10
