No confidence in Coach Banks

How many major malfunctions does the Texas special teams need to have for the special teams coach to be held accountable?  Georgia turns a game on a fake punt.  Georgia turns a game on an onside kick.  Tennessee returns a punt for a TD.  We get a penalty for faking a fair catch. Tennessee recovers an on side kick for a chance to win the game.  The chance of recovering an onside kick in college is only 15% to 20%.  Banks is an average special teams coach at best.  I understand that he has other roles for the program in recruiting and management, but he will cost us another game with his subpar special teams.

And special teams won us how many last year?  Spetic has also been on point so far.

You wonder if Banks, like Sark, is overextended being both the TEs coach and Special Teams coach and that his special teams duties should be transferred to a dedicated special teams coach.  I’m assuming Banks coaches both to justify his pay like Flood having the OC title even though he doesn’t call plays.  I miss Joe DeCamillis so much.

I get the frustration.   As previously  stated... ST probably won't us 3 games last year.  Givve me solutions, not problems.

Man Sark should've never called a timeout. Why give them TWO opportunities for an ONSIDES KICK???? When the first one ran out of bounds anyway lmao. Yk what's crazy is that he'll probably do the same thing again if in the same scenario.

It’s simple.  Time to hire a new special teams coach.  We were much better when Joe DeCamillis was here.

Nothing you have said refutes how terrible Special Teams are or how terrible the coach is at coaching them.

I hope all the people making these miserable posts come back in the second half of the year and take back what they said. I clearly remember all this same BS happening last year, then the offense got rolling in the second half. It’s going to happen again and all the crow yall are going to have to eat is going to be amazing! Hook’em!! 4-0 #1 in the country in the toughest conference in the country after having a win over the previous #1 team in the country and the world is burning down??? Recalibrate and enjoy the wins. It’s clear most of these posts are made by joystick warriors.

How did Banks not know you can’t do an onside kick like Tennessee did after they tried it and took a timeout. Shouldn’t he have told Sark the rule about having to kick from the 35?   That and the fair catch move show some limitations in rule knowledge that is a coaching problem.

Banks helped to fix the relationships between the DFW high school coaches and Texas when Mensa screwed them up.

Banks is overstretched, doing well in coaching the kicker.  He should stick to either coaching special teams or tight ends.

We had multiple "brain farts" yesterday.  Something that is very unusual for UT athletic teams in any sport........but it happened.  By in large my take on the game was there we were a little 'over-hyped'.  Usually that wears off after a quarter, but our guys were ultra into the game....... I will live with it.   

If you want ultra cool.........go be a USC fans.........plenty of seats available.

Georgia fake punt…Georgia on side kick…fake FG against OU…fake punt against OU…today’s fiascos.  It’s not a one time thing.  It costs us a game every year.  With our athletes, special teams should be a weapon.  They have not been a plus since K Robinson graduated.

Banks doesn’t need to be in charge of kick returns, punt returns and FG defense for sure.  Banks helps in recruiting, but Gilbert can handle that now.

We are lucky this year with analyst Steve Casula from Michigan to coach TEs.  He’s a great TE coach.

I am sure Banks told the hands team when everyone knew an onside kick was coming “Hey, go out and muff this kick so we can make the game more interesting.”. Or “Hey, signal for a fair catch even though the kick isn’t coming to you”.  I am sure the coaching staff would appreciate the insightful analysis on how to fix everything in five minutes, because they don’t know what they are doing the 30+ hours per week in meetings and practice.

Start by not putting a receiver known for his drops on the “hands team”.  That seems obvious.  How about not dropping back on a kickoff or punt until you see Georgia actually kick the ball.  Fool me once …..

If Sark didn't call a time out in a situation where a team brought out that wacky kick, I would have lost my mind.
