This is what you spend your free time thinking about?  Jesus.

I'm a lawyer, I get bored. I also have an unhealthy addiction to sports. It also is a website specifically created for sports topics, so uhh yes?

Who you going to hire?  Not trying to be a smart a just wondering who people think would be better.  It seems like it is harder to win at Texas than anyone else.  I don’t really know why.  I always said if we couldn’t get Saban we need to get one of his guys.  We got one.  I don’t know at all if he can take us to the promise land.  In the NIL era, we’re the New York Yankees, the Los Angeles Dodgers.  We’re better off than we were before he got here, but I want to get like Georgia is, like the Saban Alabama’s were. We seem a long way from that to me.

Along the lines of the point of the OP. I don't see a ton of options that have a track record of doing it. There are only 4 active head coaches with a NC and two of them are Dabo and Ryan Day (I wouldn't want either). The other 2 aren't leaving. I saw some posts about Traylor and GJ but they definitely haven't done it at the big time level and that would be quite a risk.

Can always call Brian Kelly or Jimbo.

Yeah that’s the problem, I’d like a guaranteed hire and there just isn’t one we can get.  So do you take a gamble and take Traylor or Will Stein? Or a Lashlee?  I just don’t know.

At least we’re not as bad as when Charlie Strong was here 🤣.  I am not going to lie, when Charlie was here I watched the games but knew we were going to lose or look like crap.  I gave up.  I didn’t even get upset anymore.

I've asked the same questions but missing the playoffs 2 years in a row with this roster is massive failure.

There’s an offensive guy out in New Mexico that could take our offense and score 50 a game the rest of the way.  How bad do you want to win?  🤣🤣

Chime in……..Are you worried about graduation rates or winning football games/championships?

That turned out real well, Sucked for 12 years.

Yes we did suck for 12 years but that was bc we hired 2 coaches that should not have been HCs at Texas. Also, or AD and BOR were very unaligned.
I’m not ready to fire Sark but changes have to be made. OL, ST, LB, OC/QB coach. Maybe/maybe not full time playcaller but someone who can help him more in that regard.

If Sark misses the playoffs this year he needs to be cornered into hiring an OC or look at the NFL. I don’t see how he is allowed to run the same coaching plan back if he misses out this year with arguably the best talent he’s had here so far.

I feel the coordinator shuffle never works when coaches are forced to make that type of change. Sure, if your coordinators leave to better positions that is one thing. I think if Texas feels like they need to force him to hire an OC, replace Flood or Banks then they should go ahead and move on from Sarkisian (any coach).

Georgia fans are complaining about Kirby. He hasn’t gotten out of the first round since the playoffs expanded. ND fans will be complaining about Marcus Freeman. tOSU fans will be complaining about Ryan Day if he doesn’t win the Big Ten and/or get to the national title game. It’s the nature of the beast.

You think it was going to get better?

While the hires of Charlie Strong and Tom Herman were abysmal, it doesn't mean forcing out Mack Brown was the wrong move.

I think we would have been better off with Mack for another year or two until we found a strong replacement. In retrospect CS was a desparation hire that really set the program back by ~5 years given the offensive talent bench was completely depleted by the end. I think Herman was in some ways the hatchet man - he got rid of the rot and got us pointed on the right trajectory again. He also left plenty of pieces (i.e. Bijan) for Sark to work with.

Charlie Strong was the culmination of a disaster that was the UT-Austin system at the time.

Can we get through the next few games before we start worrying about this.  Feels like everyone is already preparing for failure and that is not Texas Fight mentality.

Better? Who cares about better? Better than Strong? That's a really low bar. Mack Brown would have extended the mediocrity he'd already exhibited starting in 2010. I actually predicted that's where we were headed because he got lazy on the recruiting trail. Saban had established the blueprint for how to recruit. 7on7 coaches and various trainers started having a bigger impact on high school players. Mack refused to let his assistants travel outside the immediate Austin area during the season. He wouldn't even give gas money to high school coaches to bring their players to Austin. He wouldn't move his recruiting window up because he didn't feel like high school players should face any recruiting pressure before their junior year was finished. At the time I was going out to see a lot of high school games, and it was obvious our incoming talent was not up to snuff. In addition, he became scared of quarterback recruiting, making ludicrous promises to Garrett Gilbert's Dad about not recruiting over his son.

I tried to tell people early we were about to hit a bad spell, but people shouted me down, told me to relax and enjoy the good times - because 2008 and 2009 were admittedly good.

Better to pull the rip cord and start with a new regime. There's no such thing as a sure thing with new head coach hirings (unless you're Ohio State) but better to try to achieve excellence than to put up with mediocrity.

The hiring process was terrible, but then except for Mack Brown and Steve Sarkisian, the hiring process has always been terrible. It was certainly terrible for Charlie Strong and Tom Herman, that's for sure, but it was terrible for Fred Akers, David McWilliams, and John Mackovic as well, so par for the course. As long as Eltife is the Chairman of the Board of Regents we should be good for the next one, but if Hinojosa somehow wins the governor position and starts filling the Board of Regents with people either indifferent or antagonistic to Texas football, we'll have some issues. Not to advocate who people should vote for. Just that's the reality. I don't think the governor position should make as big of an impact on the fortunes of Texas football as it does, but it matters who is on the Board of Regents. Especially when there's a coaching change.

That said, it's possible to hire a hall of famer even when the hiring process is borked. Not likely, but it happens. Pete Carroll is probably my favorite example.

None of this informs where we are with Steve Sarkisian right now. We'll have to see how the season plays out.

Agree, can’t be forced. He has to evaluate it and come up with the right decision.
