So 50-50 is unreal in today’s game. Nope. Base stealing has never been easier. Bigger bases. Pitcher disengagement rules. There were over 1,000 more steals in 2023 compared to 2022, and there will be more steals in 2024 than in 2023. In 2023, runners stole 2B at the highest rate in decades and stole 3B at the highest rate in history. Anyway, Ohtani is still impressive. Especially for for someone that is his size. The stolen bags are crazy to me for a big guy like him. Plus he’d be one of if not the best pitcher if he just did that. We haven’t seen a dude like him. It won't be rare with the rule changes moving forward and you can't look at the past as reasoning why it's rare. There might be 3-4 guys who reach 50 and you're amazed by the 50 number when Elly has 60+ while Jose Caballero would already have 50 if he didn't miss games. As you can see, it is not rare as we've had 5 players in 2 years do it with rule changes. Now here is the leaders in 2022 before rule changes. How many of them are 6’4” 215? I’m saying his 50 bags is more amazing to me than his 50 homers. Nobody his size has 50 stolen bags.

Last two years after Covid: 2022 - 6 players with 30+ stolen bases, 1 with 40+ 2021 - 6 players with 30+ stolen bases, 2 with 40+ Rule changes implemented 2023 - 18 players with 30+ stolen bases, 6 with 40+, 3 with 50+, 2 with 60+, 1 with 70+ 2024 - 19 players with 30+ stolen bases, 4 with 40+, 2 with 50+, 1 with 60+ -- Still games remaining so this could incresae as there is 5 players with 29, 1 with 39, and 2 that are mid 40s. It's obvious that the rule changes have made 50 the new 40. The real impressive number to look forward to is 60+ stolen bases.
