Moderators Blake Munroe Posted February 24 Moderators Posted February 24 As of today, Sunday, February 23rd, there have been THIRTY TWO pitchers go above 98 mph on the mound. Again…. Today is February 23rd. 32 pitchers have gone above 98 mph. That’s absolutely incredible for this early in the year. 10 Quote
Huskie1 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Lots of live arms. I think the restructuring of the minor leagues and NIL are attracting/keeping more quality players to the college game. 2 Quote

I think the advent of companies like Driveline, specific arm training (overload and underload) and what has amounted to year round baseball has made the guy throwing low 90s average. 1 Quote
Han Soul Hole Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Probably not a coincidence. Tommy John Surgery by Year [1] Tommy John surgery, also known as ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction, has become increasingly common in recent years. Here is a breakdown of the number of surgeries performed by year: [2, 3, 4, 5, 6] Year | Number of Surgeries : 1974 | 1 1978 | 1 1980 | 1 1981 | 1 1982 | 1 1983 | 1 1984 | 1 1985 | 1 1986 | 1 1987 | 1 1988 | 1 1989 | 1 1990 | 2 1991 | 2 1992 | 2 1993 | 2 1994 | 2 1995 | 4 1996 | 5 1997 | 6 1998 | 7 1999 | 8 2000 | 11 2001 | 13 2002 | 14 2003 | 16 2004 | 19 2005 | 20 2006 | 22 2007 | 20 2008 | 24 2009 | 25 2010 | 26 2011 | 27 2012 | 36 2013 | 19 2014 | 36 2015 | 37 2016 | 39 2017 | 40 2018 | 41 2019 | 42 2020 | 33 (due to COVID-19 pandemic) 2021 | 43 2022 | 44 2023 | 45 2024 | (Data not yet available) 1 Quote

It's definitely correlation to just gassing it down the pipe and not being conditioned to throw as much. 1 Quote
.45s Posted February 24 Posted February 24 https://www.minnpost.com/community-voices/2024/09/fifty-years-after-the-first-procedure-tommy-john-surgery-is-more-common-than-ever/ The article says more than half of the surgeries now are in ages 15-19.- " it’s estimated that nearly 2,500 professional baseball players have undergone the surgery, and the number of overall procedures increases about 9% a year. " This article as well as another I saw somewhere said that 1/3 of major league pitchers have had this surgery. Seems like a lot but I have seen it twice. Might be fake news. Quote
