Glad Texas isn’t getting the hate but seems odd why so much negative hate solely on North Carolina for not deserving NCAA bid when Xavier looks similar as another team that barely snuck in, along with our longhorns.

Xavier and NC both only won 1 quad 1 game and North Carolina Net ranking is 10 spots higher than Xavier.  Other stats in favor of NC over Xavier.    It does seem like WVI got screwed but you could argue Xavier is less deserving than NC.   What am I missing?

North Carolina has only beat 2 teams in the field of 68 with ample opportunity to do so. Their AD was head of the committee. Just a couple more reasons in addition to their 1-12 quad 1 record.

Plus I think it's as much about what UNC represents....the big school/blue blood that is "always" given preferential treatment even when they don't deserve it over the smaller schools. Xavier doesn't quite fit that narrative in the way that UNC does.

UNC is not only 1-12 in Quad 1 games ... they are 1-10 against teams in the NCAA Tournament ...literally o-fer vs teams in the NCAA Tournament in ACC play. It's a complete joke they got selected. With that said, now that they are in the tournament, anything can happen in the tournament. But they barely had a pulse this season against Quad 1's or NCAA Tournament teams.

Xavier won games vs. UConn, Creighton and Marquette in conference play. They had more of a pulse.

Makes sense re: NC.

Even though our horns also barely snuck in, I’m hoping we are energized with full healthy roster and Mark now playing at point.

In addition to what's been mentioned I'll add that it looks terrible that the Chairman of the NCAA Selection committee is Bubba Cunningham who just happens to be the Athletic Director at UNC.  In theory he cannot even be in the room when UNC is discussed for an at-large berth but it sure looks suspicious.

Yeah, the optics look bad on this even though he allegedly recused himself. I don’t know why ADs are on the selection committee anyway.

I don't think he was, but as I have explained to people for years, the hard thing is not to talk about his team when he is out of the room, but to explain to him when he gets back in the room that his team is OUT and this is WHY it's out.

I am not sure that a team under consideration that has had a rep on the committee has ever been left out. I'm sure it has happened but it is rare.

First thing I thought of when I saw that they were in. And they were the last team in. The vice chair said UNC would have been out if Memphis had lost, but I wonder.

Just noticed that Bubba gets a $104,000 incentive bonus for UNC making the tournament - nothing to see here folks, move on ...

If UNC beats # 6 Ole Miss Thursday a lot of talking media heads are going to go silent.  That was an epic beat down tonight

I'm not for sure.

In the games, anything can happen. Just like Santa Clara beat UC Irvine 101-62 in the NIT last night. I'm quite sure Santa Clara fans think they should have been in the NCAA Tournament this morning. That their league should have received three or four bids vs. two (St. Mary's and Gonzaga).

But the issue is their resume wasn't deserving, period. Just no way around it. It's about the why they shouldn't have been in ... once you get in the tournament, anything can happen. A hot game, a bad game by another team, etc...

North Carolina hadn't beaten a team in the NCAA Tournament since December 21 (that's not a misprint). 1-10 against NCAA Tournament teams, 1-12 in Quad 1's.

I'm thinking George Mikan, Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant..... and fatty? Give me a break.

Makes sense that NC's performance throughout the season may not have justified making the tournament but they looked really good in their play-in game last night.  Will be interesting to see how North Carolina does going forward in the tournament.  Maybe all the hate from commentators earlier this week, saying they didn't deserve to make it in, serves as a motivator for the Tar Heels.

Curious @Gerry Hamilton, do you have an opinion whose job is more on the line over the next two weeks between Hubert Davis and Rodney Terry?  Both seemed to be hanging on by a thread.  Do both head coaches save their jobs with 2 wins (play-in game and round of 64)?  Assuming both coaches are completely safe if they make it to Sweet 16.  Thoughts?

Davis was guaranteed a few weeks ago that he would return.  That could be a really good team next year.  Very good incoming freshman class and lots of guys eligible to return.
