Got to finally do what I’ve waited 6 years for this morning, take my first born (daughter) turkey hunting for youth season. She’s 6, but I was just curious if anyone else out here has taken their little ones when they’re finally of legal age, and how that experience went. It was a much colder morning that normal here in southern MO this morning, so she struggled a bit. Factored in with her waking up @ 3am this morning with a runny nose, mixed with the excitement we didn’t get back to bed and just stayed up until it was time to head out. Got her a good nap around lunch time, went back out this afternoon and she was fairly quiet/still (we were setup in a TideWe all VIS blind so movement wasn’t much concern bec of the setup) until about the hour 20ish mark of the hunt, and the brakes came off 😂 got fidgety, ate snacks on snacks to help with boredom, tried her best to whisper when she had questions about this that and the other, but she made it 2.5 hrs, so I felt like she was a trooper for the most part! In the end, it wasn’t our day today, so I let her rip that .410 at the armadillo in the food plot before packing up. And we’ll be back @ it again tomorrow on another farm. Those easterns in Southern Mo were oddly quiet at this spot today

I’m going next weekend and I am pumped. I wanted to go today but it just wasn’t in the cards.

I’m taking both my older sons with me (16 and 12) for the first time. My 12 year old is pretty excited about going.

The fact your six year old made it that far is impressive! I can’t imagine taking my youngest (also 6) and him making it that long lol.

I think I’m going to let my 12 year old use a 410 as well. He’s on the smaller side, but we might try the 20 ga.

We supposedly have some in west Texas where I deer hunt but I’ve never seen one. It would be pretty cool to get one though

my step son shot his first deer last season when I took him. Great memories. Thanks for posting

Welp, she cashed in today! Got to a new setup this morning very early bec of where they roost on a ridge. Sat in a pop up down along a creek bank. She slept and missed all the gobbling for the first 30 mins or so. Had 2 long beards and a Jake hang up on us down the creek in another field across it that we never got eyes on. She was getting antsy, but we just shutup on them and figured we’d wait awhile to see what happens. And BAM, all a sudden we see them out the corner of our eyes at a dead sprint @ our 2 decoys at about 60 yards. Started scrambling to get her on my knee and get her on the gun, the red dot turned on and get the hammer cocked. My stress didn’t help her AT ALL 😂 as I’m trying to make sure her little BOG tripod can swivel over, make sure she’s looking @ the green dot and when to shoot she gets anxious and starts to meltdown, but my GOSH she dropped the hammer on a good ole double bearded bird this morning, and it’s one of the happiest moments of my life! 19462A55-F9CB-494B-B3FD-B074BF523318.thumb.jpeg.2e2587b3515e6a31b66a3bec40402630.jpeg

And yea her little .410 can rip a very good group of pellets out to prob 45 yards or so. We have a guy locally over here that makes very good shotgun ammo. She shoots the Nitro ammo in the TSS loads

That is awesome! Nice bird for sure!! Good things come to those who wait (well sometimes when it comes to hunting lol).

And, most importantly, it’s definitely a memory you two will remember forever.

Your post inspired me to go buy a few things for next weekend, as I wait for my middle son’s basketball practice to be over. My wife will be thrilled. Gotta try it and make it a successful hunt though! 😂

You just send the bat signal out anytime you need an excuse for new stuff brotha, and I’ll pretend I’m a local expert and tell ya “the stuff you really need” for this that or the other so you can buy more cool stuff 😂 my dad was just down in Texas for work last week and lucked out on a couple rios. Think he was about an hour and a half southwest of Ft Worth, and usually tries to get down there this time of year and hunt a buddy’s farm. And returns the favor when he comes up here

Haha I appreciate that. I’m exactly an hour and a half southwest of Fort Worth… do you know where he was, exactly?

I, too, am hunting at a buddy’s farm. 😂

I believe he said it was Lingleville. What a “small world huh” moment 😂
