The 2017 game still stings, gave it completely away. Shame that Mo and Jericho both fouled out and left Osetkowski and 4 guards to have to deal with the Bagley and Carter front court for overtime. Osetkowski’s best game of his Texas career by far, he looked like baby Kevin Love that day lol.

While it doesn't sting as much, the 2005 game still lives rent free in my head.  JJ Redick could not be stopped back then.

Actually, in that game after Bamba and Sims fouled out it was Shaka's "brilliance" that decided to guard the 6'9 and #2 pick Marvin Bagley with 6'2 Eric Davis instead of 6'10 future ACC Defensive player of the Year James Banks on the bench.

Good point lol. I was a student at the time and  had a mutual friend with Banks and got to hang out with him a few times. Needless to say he was pretty mad about that. Side note, Banks told me we were getting Matt Coleman, Mo Bamba, and Brian Bowen (who was his high school teammate) in that class. Should’ve been 3 for 3.

Bowen might have been asking for less than what players get now. Maybe.

It’s official:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The University of Texas Men’s Basketball team will face Duke University in the Dick Vitale Invitational at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center on Tuesday, Nov. 4, ESPN Events in collaboration with the Charlotte Sports Foundation announced Monday. The Dick Vitale Invitational is a new men’s college basketball event that will annually honor Dick Vitale, the Hall of Fame broadcaster and one of the sport’s most iconic voices and ambassadors, who celebrates his 86th birthday today.

The contest will mark the 2025-26 season opener for both teams. The game is scheduled to be televised nationally by ESPN, and the tip-off time will be announced at a later date.

Ooh, mixed emotions for me watching this one.  I was born in Charlotte and grew up on the Carolina coast not far from Michael Jordan's hometown. ACC basketball was about the only thing area teams were good at and I always pulled for UNC or Duke or NC State BB when they were good (I think 13 national titles between them since I was first watching).

Attended Texas during the Abe Lemons years and really liked how his teams played.  I even cheered for them when they beat NC State for the NIT championship one year (when fewer teams made the NCAA tourney and the NIT had good matchups).

Probably gonna be pulling for Duke in this one though. Haven't really liked a Texas BB coach since Abe was fired. Sorry fellow Longhorns.
