Milwee and QB Development

I know this is Sark’s offense and he’s the QB whisperer, but Milwee is still the QB coach. At what point does he get put on the hot seat? Quinn’s footwork seemed to regress over the years, and coming into this game I actually said I loved Arch’s feet. But his mechanics were rough, and the footwork was the most alarming part.

The sidearm stuff doesn’t bother me — plenty of great QBs throw like that — but the rushed mechanics did. Maybe it was just the speed of the game and he’ll settle in, but to me this is the key to the season. Arch has to slow down, clean up the footwork, and hit the easy throws.

Honestly, I’m surprised Milwee is still at Texas tbh.  I’m sure he’s received OC offers elsewhere over the years, but he’s remained loyal to Sark.  He might be eyeing an NFL gig soon.

Michael Bimonte was promoted to assistant QB coach.  Could be Milwee’s successor if he leaves.  Milwee won’t get fired, but Sark would encourage him to get out while the getting is still good.

I agree with you that QB play outside of a handful of games should be better in year five of this staff than it is today.  The QBs may change (Card, Thompson, Ewers, Murphy, now Manning) but those same issues remain.  Like you, I also wonder how much Milwee teaches vs how much Sark teaches the QB mechanics.  Were Tagovailoa and Jones just generational QBs?

It really is baffling and it may be inexperience for Arch but how do we explain Quinn. They screw up two 5⭐️ top rated QBs and alarms will be ringing.

Quinn was overrated and shouldn’t have been a 5 star. He never had quick reaction with his footwork and ability to throw the deep ball.

Unless arch was hurt then all of the mechanical things fall on arch not milwee or sark. Kid has all the resources in the world with 3 hof level qbs in the family, David Morris as a qb coach and Sark who has mentored many great qbs as well. I think he’ll look at the tape and be disappointed with himself. Expect a large improvement in mechanics by UF.

This is 2025. Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers aren't going to AJ Milwee for extended footwork and release point help. They have highly compensated personal QB coaches who they work with all year.

That's not to say Milwee and Sark can't help with it or have discussions about it, but it's like blaming Juan Soto's baseball swing on the Mets hitting coach.

Yep. Arch’s mechanics and lack of touch on short and medium passes was pretty shocking for a kid that’s been groomed in QB camps his whole life. Not as much on Millwee as it is a giant WTF about the past 15 years.

I’m actually not even talking about the game. I’m talking nuance and trends but that’s something you probably know little about, huh? And as for your question, i don’t believe any of these “experts” or “sources” I only trust my eyes bc I’ve seen this kool aid poured before

I’ll say this about Arch. I don’t care who your family is, what you’ve been through or anything. 
 

there’s no way he hasn’t heard all of the hype and pressure and to be a real first time starter with 1,000 times the normal pressure a QB faces for a first start I’m sure he was gripping f that ball tight

 

Analysts are literally apologizing for how much they talked about him and hyped him up. Never seen that before.

Quinn regresses over the course of his time here and it seems like Arch has regressed as well but too early to tell and I'll let the season play out for him. Could be something with coaching, could be nothing.

Let’s revisit after Oklahoma.

That gives us 3 cupcakes, 1 road test and 1 neutral site rivalry game to see where Arch is at.

The two best teams in the country may have just played each other yesterday and I think Arch will get better.
