I know a donor myself that could have paid it.  They have what Texas has.  The will and the resources.  It’s not even hurting some of these guys on the money.  It’s money and fandom that few can understand.  Michigan and Ohio State same if it came to it. I am actually surprised he is fired before Michigan coach.  Michigan might have more resources.

What I'm saying, once again, is the next coach will have truly unrealistic expectations. It has nothing to do with Franklin. 

It's the nature of the beast. 

Reality is this for Steve Sarkisian at Texas a nature of the beast conversation:

Say Texas goes 9-3 this season and misses the playoff. And say Texas goes 9-3 in 2026 and misses the playoff. 

At least 50%, if not 65-70% of the Texas fan base would be ready to move and go get the next guy. 

It's a NC or bust expectation that will lead to many coaching failures because of a 16 team playoff on the way. NC's are going to be more difficult than ever to win. 

When exactly 3 active coaches actually have a ring, it is truly an unrealistic expectation especially when firing the old and bringing in the new is likely a $100+ million decision

That’s more like it. I do not see Aggy as a better job than Penn St.

Tradition wise it’s not close. At Penn St he’s the beast of the East and the lead dog in a prime state.

A$M is and will always be 2nd fiddle to Texas and in the region. LSU and OU have more clout.

Elko is from New Jersey and played at Penn. I wonder if he would get a look and wants to go home.

A Penn St white out night game takes a backseat to no one.

Again, unless you are from Penn and have been overlooked for decades in your home state.  Florida does not have more money nor better facilities at this point although Florida is finally upgrading the Swamp next season.  Current roster wise I would give Fla a slight edge although playing off campus for the next year at least may offset that.  My guess is Cignetti would be interested in winning now

While that would be the surface answer, I am not sure that is the case today.  Both have similar recruiting rankings the last 5 years, Penn St controls a region recruiting wise(albeit a weak region),  Penn St currently has better facilities and collectives might lean Penn St.  If Cignetti is wanting to win right away and at 64 I would assume that AND I am from the state Florida does not seem like the slam dunk choice over Penn St

The fact their rankings are similer despite Florida going through an awful period reenforces my point. There is a reason Penn St hasn't won a national title in 40yrs, Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Penn St isn't a good job just that it isn't an elite job

Except he's always been like this. Last year was the outlier. I never understood why their offense was predicted to be good. All their receivers transferred out for not getting the ball, their primary receiver (Tyler Warren) was gone to the NFL. And oh, you still have Drew Allar at qb (lol) and James Franklin as your HC (LOL).
