My thoughts about OL recruiting in the NIL era is I’d select lesser recruited players with lower asking prices but obvious potential on a 2-4 year timeline. Develop those guys while they’re not taking up significant $ then use the portal to bring higher $ proven college commodities as needed. Whether that’s 1 or 4 out of the portal will depend on the development of your HS crop.

I’ll add if there’s a no doubter like Kelvin Banks coming out of HS I’m not opposed to spending on that type of prospect.

Flood has undoubtedly developed OL per the NFL draft, however he hasn’t put together a dominant OL group. Could the issue be blocking schemes not fitting the OL strengths or play calling?

Definitely regarding your question.

Which is the issue in your opinion or is a combination of both? Does the scheme need to change? Changing the OL coach doesn’t mean improvement is the wrong scheme continues with poor play calling.

Yes. It's a disaster.

I ll let the season finish before I make that statement or say anyone should be fired

While I agree that Flood is on the hot seat, if Texas wins out and his OL is a big reason why, he gets another year.  I bet he would’ve been canned already if they had lost to OU or didn’t come back to beat Mississippi State.

I'm definitely in the let it playout camp. It is interesting others say saying that the decision has pretty much been made already though. Either way I'll trust Sark to figure it out.

Combination of both and if rumors are true, not having ultimate say so in your starting 5

Flood is likely gone and Sark is not going to waste another year. We are probably going big in the Portal for OL.  IMO zero chance Sark stands pat.

Flood isn't gone, not sure why people think he will be. Him and Sark are married together. Sark trusts him with the OL and to run what he wants. Whether any of us disagree about it or not, it's just reality.

Like I've said in another thread or multiple threads, it would be nice for them to kick the tires on some OL but I don't believe they will.

But I'm not in the know or have any insider knowledge, just a gut feeling and connecting the dots.

Welp with Flood coming back and them not taking any portal OL guaranteed, better see some major development of the current OL room because 2026 is supposed to be the year...

I think “Flood is likely gone” is a statement with zero actual backing.

Wild thread haha

If Sark moved on from Flood ... that would be scapegoat firing pure and simple to cover his failure at the head coaching position.

So you’re telling everyone that Flood asked to go in the portal at IOL and Sark said no?

Are you also telling us that Sark chose to start Stroh for 5 games and Nick Brooks for 2?

In theory, you’re not wrong. The problem is, everybody is thinking similar to you.

Whole lot of professional armchair coaches in this thread

It’s not arm chair coaching when you watched an offensive that couldn’t move SHSU d-lineman and watched Florida nearly kill Arch.

Sark is the head coach.

It's Sark's scheme.

It's Sark's play calls.

Sark watches every practice and game.

Sark has say and part of the evaluation of every recruit in the program.

He has final say on every personnel decision.

So yes.

They brought in Emanuel Pregnon for a visit. He decided to go to Oregon.

You’re acting like all of these guys are out there who would make the Texas OL miraculously better.

He's never had "ultimate" say in his starting 5. That's not how it works. The head coach always does.

It cracked me up when people would blame the WR coach at Texas when Herman would have 8 receivers rotating.

When you put $30 million into a roster and it is a lackluster year, yeah that should piss people off. I get you’re good with mediocrity, that’s fine, I’m not.

I think it’s fairly reasonable to suggest that an all Big 10 guy at the LG position would have made a significant difference.
