You seem to be looking at the On3 Andy Staples tweet, which does have Texas # 1, but the article in the opening post refers to USA Today's poll, which looks like this, with Texas behind both Big 10 schools ... (no sarcasm allowed) No one really cares right now because after the opener it will sort itself out, at least for a week

They actually won the 2025 National Poultry Judging Championship recently ... no kidding. Here's part of the photo of the champs from TexAgs (too big to screen grab fully)

Sark on NFL Draft: “Want to”
ArizonaLonghorn replied to Bobby Burton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I wish they would scratch Arch from all the 2026 mocks, but definitely not going to happen. And CONGRATULATIONS to Texas A&M as two more members of "The Greatest Recruiting Class Ever" in 2023 go in the first round, doubling the count from their junior year. Of course, those two are no longer Aggies (LT Overton at Bama and Longhorn buddy Evan Stewart at Oregon), but still, kudos to Jimbo for recognizing their 5* talents. Too bad they had to leave College Station to blossom. -
Just saw this thread about the tweet on TexAgs - https://texags.com/forums/8/topics/3540169 They are complaining about it too (here's the start of the thread) - "Fat Bottom Squirrels" has the best answer, IMHO "Nothing we can do about it other than bend over and take it. We had an opportunity this weekend to take back some pride and fell directly on our faces. Like we literally always do."

Just went slumming on TexAgs to see how things are going, what with the NFL draft concluding (just one of the fabled 2023 Greatest Class of All Time in the draft as an Aggie, plus the baseball series). Some of them seem to really want to quit following Aggie sports, though they picked an odd metaphor to express it

OTF Premium Over the Last Two Years...
ArizonaLonghorn replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Good analogy - sometimes you have to hammer on the door a few times to finally smash through but if you're on the doorstep often enough with a battering ram your time should come. Both those coaches won twice, which should be encouraging to Texas (and probably programs like Oregon). I'm old enough to remember when "Clemsoning" was a pejorative adjective/verb/noun for getting close and then choking - right up until they won Dabo's first championship. We are well positioned now with our coaches and players, just need a few breaks with health and big plays at the right time. Fourth and ten forever!! -
Seems like a good time to post a link to this ESPN article titled "Jim Schlossnagle is at the center of the Texas-Texas A&M storm" And this is another reason why they hate us so badly - quote from the article when CDC snaked him away from A&M after a meeting at a nearby cemetery - By Tuesday, June 25, Schlossnagle was the new coach at Texas, and Del Conte regaled reporters with his tale of meeting the coach in a cemetery in Snook, Texas, about 12 miles outside of College Station, when the coach returned from Omaha. "I left at the crack of dawn, and I knew I could not be seen anywhere in College Station, so I went to the Snook Cemetery and waited for [Schlossnagle] to get back," Del Conte said. "The Snook Cemetery will go down in history." The timing was stunning. For the Longhorns, it was the ultimate power move. For the Aggies, it was the ultimate betrayal.

C maybe but honestly if he played RT in the NFL he would be roadkill and Kyler Murray would be running for his life a lot. -

107 was the total number of players projected as first rounders when you tally up all the mock drafts. -
True that. Mel Kiper might never recover from that. The biggest Longhorn OMG moment thus far has been Vernon Broughton selected # 71. CJ Vogel had VB going # 181 so 110 picks or almost 4 rounds later, and the NFL Mock Draft Consensus had VB going # 123 or 52 spots later (almost 2 rounds). Seeing Dillon Gabriel picked ahead of several QBs projected higher was a surprise. Shedeur, Will Howard or Quinn Ewers - who is your pick for next QB off the board?

Finally an Arizona native ... from a district adjacent to mine so I followed him a little in high school (Christian Clark is my neighbor). Kids from Shough's high school train at the same gym I go to. I remember him coming out of high school (same class as Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields), I think a two time state champ at Chandler Hamilton and ranked # 1 player in the state. Went to Oregon, backed up Justin Herbert, injured, went to Texas Tech, injured, played well at Louisville. Four (?) college degrees lol. Surprised he was taken this high given his injury history. The shock on Mel's face was worth it I guess (Mel had Shedeur Sanders as the # 1 overall pick). Trivia question - who was the fourth highest rated QB in Arizona in that 2018 class? Anyone know ... -
Sounds like there are a few teams he doesn't want drafting him, so he's probably acting aloof in those interviews. Here's an example in the tweet, a QB coach from a team drafting in the first 7 spots slagging on him (lot of guys don't want to go to Cleveland or the Jets, just sayin'). This isn't as bad as John Elway snubbing the Colts or Eli Manning's family telling the Chargers not to draft him, but those two had more leverage. Also, Deion rubs a lot of guys the wrong way, just saying ...

What OU fans won't tell you about Mateer...

Dunno how many QBs and playmakers we have from the chats but I'm sure we can find a lot of great coaches and coordinators !! -

I think it's the opponent's ranking in points allowed, from # 1 to # 135 or however many teams there are (and next col is yards allowed ranking). So basically against the 3 teams he faced ranked in the top half on defense he struggled, and none of those teams were as good as several teams he'll face in the SEC. -
Looking back at Arch’s 2023 Recruiting Ranking
ArizonaLonghorn replied to Bevo92's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Digging a little on Arch's fall from # 1 to # 3 QB in ESPN rankings I found this from when he dropped to # 2 behind Malachi Nelson. In June, when Arch committed to Texas, he was ESPN # 1 QB but in July they placed Nelson ahead of him. Here's an article in a Louisiana site from Tom Luginbill, ESPN's national recruiting director at the time. ESPN's Tom Luginbill explains Arch Manning's fall from top spot in recruiting rankings (free site Lafayette Daily Advertiser) Short version - "Manning’s drop to No. 2 was about seeing more and more of the other talented quarterbacks in the 2023 class during the past several months." Later Arch would drop to # 3 in the ESPN rankings behind Dante Moore after Moore's strong showing at the Elite 11 Finals, which Arch did not attend. Couple of other interesting tidbits about Arch disrespect from my quick research - "Former Rivals recruiting director Mike Farrell said if not for his last name, Manning would be a high, three-star quarterback, that he hasn’t “progressed” since his freshman year and that he hasn’t stepped up against better competition." And when ESPN writer Adam Rittenberg released his Top 15 returning QBs for 2025 Arch was # 12 !! Arch Manning's Surprising Spot in ESPN's 2025 QB Rankings Sparks Debate (Athlon from free Yahoo link) -
Looking back at Arch’s 2023 Recruiting Ranking
ArizonaLonghorn replied to Bevo92's topic in On Texas Football Forum
ESPN said they were dropping Arch below the other QBs because he wouldn't compete in the summer camps like Elite 11. They said because he played at a small high school it was hard to evaluate him properly and so they were rewarding players who (in their words) "were willing to compete against their peers at a high level". I remember specifically that Moore had a good camp and ESPN made a big deal about elevating him above Arch because of that. I thought at the time it seemed petty and spiteful, maybe a little dumb, to downgrade a player just because he didn't go to Elite 11 camp. Also, not a bad way to click-bait more attention to their recruiting pay site I guess? Obviously they were wrong (Nelson went from USC -> Boise State -> UTEP !!!) and I'm not defending ESPN, just relating what they wrote on the espn.com website at the time it happened. Edit: I see I was typing at the same time as thatdude2, glad someone else remembered it the same way 🤘 -
Well they are paying a coach $9,000,000 to NOT coach so it's possible they might pay a player $500K to not play, right? Makes sense I guess 🙃
-
Kyler Murray agrees with this message. For those who forgot, he was the # 1 overall pick in the NFL draft and # 9 overall pick in the MLB draft and chose pro football.

I remember seeing clips of Malik Agbo catching passes downfield in 7-on-7 games while listed at 6'5" 305 lbs, thinking "man, we could really use a guy that size with that athleticism". He was rated almost140 spots higher than Cam Williams in the same class and I was really happy when he signed. Sorry and a little surprised it didn't work out better for him at Texas and I wish him luck at his next stop (so long as they're not on our schedule). Further proof you never know how guys will sort themselves out once they get on campus.

Nico to UCLA (whew - glad that's over)
ArizonaLonghorn replied to ArizonaLonghorn's topic in On Texas Football Forum
In that case they made yet ANOTHER big mistake by picking a bottom feeder team in the conference that won the past two national championships and has 3-4 top programs pretty much each year (OSU, Oregon, Penn State, Michigan). UCLA is rarely even the best program in Los Angeles. Not much chance Nico leads them to the CFB playoffs.
