  1. Glad he's at someplace cool during our heat spell (also known as Arizona summer) ... it's 114 F here today in Chandler. I live about 1.5 miles from the Chandler school district - in Christian Clark's district - and the gym I use is clogged with kids rocking the "Wolves" workout gear in the summer.
  2. Now compare our class to the # 1 2022 A&M class, the GOAT class - eight 5* recruits, I think 5 of them DL or EDGE. ONE guy stuck it out and was drafted from A&M (Stewart). Their other 2 draft picks were a transfer from Purdue and a 4th year guy. Some of the 2022 guys who transferred out did get drafted (Nolen the most obvious), but we had 3x more guys drafted out of that class than they did. Look at their attrition rate, pretty astounding.
  3. Hey guys, those big bucks from advertisers help keep the subscription costs very very low here. For what we get in quality reporting a few ads are tolerable to me at least.
  4. For a second there I thought those pesky Blue Devils were after TREVOR Goosby. Whew.
  5. Did anyone else not see that coming? I sure didn't
  6. $31 million just doesn't buy you much these days in college sports, if Missouri's results are any indication 🙂 Now in my day that much money would have definitely done the trick ...
  7. Close to half of all five star recruits aren't even drafted into the NFL and some of those drafted are taken in the later rounds, where the guaranteed money is relatively paltry. What is Quinn's deal with the Dolphins worth? I can remember a couple of # 1 overall recruits who didn't even make it to the league. Once an NIL deal goes much over say $2 million you're talking about real money.
  8. In 1977 I was in grad school at Texas and waiting for a windshield replacement at the Sears on Hancock. Someone had driven a golf ball thru my windshield as I was driving past the golf course across the street (I guarantee THAT gets your attention when you are driving 35 mph; I ducked and thought I was being shot at). At the Sears auto repair shop Brad Shearer walks in. I thought I'd go over, maybe introduce myself and thank him for coming to Texas to play football (this was the year we were undefeated in the regular season, Earl won the Heisman, Fred won Coach of the Year and Brad won the Outland Trophy). As I approached him he looked my way, his eyes got narrow and he kind of growled. I changed my mind and left him alone 🙂 He was intimidating just standing there in the auto repair lobby. Favorite between Brad and Kenneth Sims? Can't decide, I'm declaring co-champs for # 77. I just wish they had gone on to strong pro careers. Brad was slowed by injuries and Ken derailed by a drug problem.
  9. Portaled to Georgia after a suspension-filled season at A&M, sorta made it thru spring ball in Athens but was off the team and out of football by July.
  10. Smoke Bouie, part of the historic 2023 Texas A&M GOAT class, approves this message.
  11. # 66 on 2024 roster was Jackson Barton, who didn't last long ... here's his mug shot - yeah, Christian should definitely sue someone for damages!
  12. It's that Arizona sun Jeff, tends to bleach things out, even skin tones - 112 F here already here in Phoenix (I live about 2.5 miles from the Cards' practice field), and this is what happens when you are out at practice in the sun too long.
  13. Ooh, mixed emotions for me watching this one. I was born in Charlotte and grew up on the Carolina coast not far from Michael Jordan's hometown. ACC basketball was about the only thing area teams were good at and I always pulled for UNC or Duke or NC State BB when they were good (I think 13 national titles between them since I was first watching). Attended Texas during the Abe Lemons years and really liked how his teams played. I even cheered for them when they beat NC State for the NIT championship one year (when fewer teams made the NCAA tourney and the NIT had good matchups). Probably gonna be pulling for Duke in this one though. Haven't really liked a Texas BB coach since Abe was fired. Sorry fellow Longhorns.
  14. Central Michigan will receive a "show-cause" reprimand for Michigan's sins, if Jerry Tarkanian is right ...
  15. Someone please tell CDC that here at OnTexasFootball we have multiple posters who would have won THREE national championships by now if they were coaching the team. Easily.
  16. Today is June 7, shorthand 6/7. What was OU's record last season? Wild ass guess - we'll hear from John F. again on the 5th of August. Yeah, pretty subtle (and I might have gotten it wrong)
  17. Thanks for posting Blake! Any insights on whether Title IX will be invoked by those questioning why > 90% of the settlement money will go to men? Especially if women's basketball becomes a source of revenue with bigger TV contracts? I get it, football and men's basketball generate most all the athletic department revenue, but Title IX law may not look at it that way. Are existing NIL deals grandfathered in (say USC for example) or will they be subject to review by the NIL Go team? Any fears that schools without football teams but strong basketball teams might dominate since they can spend much more on BB than those funneling 75% to football? I'm looking forward to seeing how they enforce the outside NIL deals too. It seems anyone with a large social media presence can generate a lot of $$ from sponsoring companies in their posts - Livvy Dunne for example, or Texas track and field guy Sam Hurley, who was earning around a million/year on social media even though few Texas sports fans ever heard of him.
  18. Lanning hitting pool over this one?
  19. I remember watching the inning and thinking both runs should be unearned, so was surprised when the announcers said one was earned. Anyway I guess the disconnect in the chart was showing 0.00 ERA with one ER - not a big deal. You're doing a great job CJ, thanks.
  20. Nerd alert, sorry - just curious about the chart where Teagan has an ERA of 0.00 on line 3 but three lines down she's shown with 1 ER. (I remember the inning, against OU when our SS made an error which lead to an unearned run and one more scored later that inning on a fielder's choice - that was the earned run). Edit: just saw this on ESPN - "Kavan has been the best pitcher in the WCWS (17 innings, 0.41 ERA, no extra-base hits allowed)"
  21. Us Older Horns might also remember watching him play in the most astounding Super Bowl of all time, the Namath led Jets beating the heavily favored Colts to win Super Bowl III
  22. A recruit has committed but isn't ready to announce it yet.
  23. Thanks for the link. Key quotes (to me) from the article - "The going rate for a star pitcher in the portal was believed to be in the $100,000-$150,000 range. ... (the) Matador Club announced it had signed Canady to an NIL agreement ... The contract is for one year and $1,050,024 ... The $24 is for Canady’s jersey number. The $50,000 is for living expenses. And the $1 million is for Canady." Now THAT'S the way a less than successful program can use NIL to full effect to lure stars, big bucks sure, but personalized like $24 for the jersey number. No to and fro, no 'get back to me with a counter offer', no 'what would it take?' foreplay. Just blow them away by going all in from the jump. I admire their chutzpah, those Tech oilmen aren't fooling around.
