How do you think he will play Penn State? Because I don't think a similar gameplan will work against them. Imo, Ohio State allowing 166 rushing yards to Texas "playing honest" with a light box doesn't bode well for them vs Penn State. I think we could have gone for 200+ - we abandoned the run at times and had drives stall and get off schedule to Arch's accuracy issues. You can say Ohio State was just allowing Texas to run on light boxes, playing bend don't break but Texas was doing the same thing if not more so (giving ample respect to Ohio State's air attack) and still held Ohio State's ground game in check. The preseason expectation was that Penn State will probably have the best running game in the country, which means better than Texas'. Also have a running QB (that has a lot more experience than Arch). If their WR corps is improved from last season in the way people are predicting, Ohio State may not be able to successfully rely on loading the box and allowing Allar to attempt to beat them through the air (which is what they have done every time facing Allar-led PSU so far). Should be interesting. Y'all are a good team, but I think the apparent lack of run game and run defense compared to last year will making repeating difficult. Or maybe our run game and run D is just that good? I would definitely love for that to be the case, but I'm skeptical of that as well.

We had two drives the whole game in which we had snaps in the redzone. Let me recap them: 3rd quarter: Driving in from the 28 yard line, 3rd&2. 8 yard run from Wisner sets us up in the redzone. After that highly successful run, we had 6 plays in the redzone. Only one of them was a run by a runningback- a 2 yard run by Baxter from the 3 yard line on 3rd down (that's a successful RZ run). Instead of dying on the hill of your RB running it in, or calling a imaginative play/bootleg, we choose to try to do QB sneak. Here, I'd say our true running game (even discounting some successful QB runs) was successful, we just didn't give our RBs a true chance to finish the job. 4th quarter: Driving in from the 35 yard line, 3rd&2. 5 yard run from Wisner sets us up in the high redzone. Again, after that highly successful run, we had 5 plays in the redzone with only one run from a RB (Successful 3 yds on 2nd and 6). This was followed by two incompletions (no bootlegs, either). We essentially abandoned RB run game in the redzone (mistake #1) and also refused to be imaginative (mistake #2). We need to give our RBs room to actually fail in the RZ before we say that they can't run in the RZ. True/crazy stat: every time we ran the ball in 3rd and short (non goal line) with RBs, we converted for 1st downs. The problems were #1- we had way too few 3rd and shorts, and #2- we had way too many instances of poor passing on 3rd and short.

I think Florida’s offense will be good, but the verdict is out on the defense. We will learn a lot about them in the next 3 weeks. The good news is Florida won’t be able to hide anything from us, whereas we should be able to save wrinkles. We essentially have a month to prepare for Florida. There will for sure be no excuse for us to not have a good gameplan for Florida. Not knowing Patricia at the CFb level was a caveat that neutralized game prep

I disagree. This was Joe Burrow’s first start against Miami at LSU, in Baton Rouge, with JJ and JaMar Chase to throw to. We don’t have a JJ and JaMar to throw to, and Miami finished 7-6 that year. Point is, development takes time. Even for a guy who would go on to have the best and most accurate season ever

I’m putting a lot of stock in Miami- Cristobal is an OL guy and their OL looks good, good WRs that can catch the ball, good defense, Beck looks back to 2023 form now that his receivers don’t have alligator arms. As long as they never have to kneel the ball this year they should be good. -

The partial game stats just need to stop. I can see discounting 4th quarter stats if the 4th quarter wasn’t garbage time. It wasn’t. Ask Ohio State fans if they felt comfortable with Texas on the 50 with 2 minutes left. I wouldn’t have been. Honestly, I think I would rather have a guy in Arch’s position start slow and get stronger as the game went on, which is what happened. That tells me it was nerves and the guy is a gamer at heart. Starting fast and then fading is more alarming. -

Ohio State Miami LSU Texas Notre Dame Clemson Arch Manning will correct the issues he was having with easy completions. He is a better QB than the Carr guy. Texas also probably has the best defense in the country. Wisner looks like he will run for 1000 yds again this season and looks like we can get 500+ at least from Baxter. I could see both of them going for 1000+, honestly -

He’s had a total of 3 opportunities in scoring range so far this season, 1 of 3 conversions for points, two 4th down stops. Against a playoff team on the road. Almost assuredly a top 5 team in the country at the end of the year Let’s give him a few more opportunities to see if we are actually improved this season. Sample size is a little small so far -

They actually aren’t. They’re based on the opinions of members of the associated press or coaches. -

7-0 vs Ohio State in Columbus through 3 quarters isn’t the same thing that happened in Ames in 2015. Also, football is a 4 quarter game, so the “through 3 quarters” stuff is bs. Arch had 170 through 4 quarters. That 4th quarter wasn’t garbage time. A key mantra in football is the 4th quarter is the most important quarter. Let’s not forget that when trying to make a guy’s stats look worse than they wound up being at the final. You’re being overly doom and gloom about losing a one possession game on the road while outgaining your proposed #1 team in the country by over 100 yds. -
We had two possessions in the 3rd Q. The first, we had a 70 yd drive that stalled at the 1 yard line. The second, Arch pretty immediately threw an INT. The 3rd and 4th quarters were our best quarters on Saturday. Bad 3rd or 4th quarter playcalling hasn’t been an issue so far this year. The first half was for sure not great, but we were going against a defense literally no one had seen before, so there’s a caveat there. Then again, hard to say the play calling wasn’t great in the first half when Arch was badly missing open guys. Goal line and short yardage are basically the same issue, and yes, clearly it’s an issue.

I really don’t think “Texas fans” are piling on Arch NEARLY as much as the outside world. It truly is insane and illogical. The build up tear down cycle that Gerry has mentioned is in full effect. Never mind that Arch did pretty much just as well as any QB that faced Ohio State last year. He had ugly passes, yes. He also did have some spectacular plays. And he didn’t mess up so much that we were completely out of the game. Idiots out there are acting like this was the worst showing ever while simultaneously glorifying Ohio State’s defense. There is no logic to the sports entertainment business these days. Hating on athletes is the ultimate money maker, unfortunately. Lauding one team or player only gets you an audience with that team or player’s fans. Hating on a team or player gets you an audience with the fans of the other 120+ teams.

Sark has one weakness and we all know it- goal line. I think his issue right now is he’s not trusting our backs enough to run power. I do think we’re more capable of it this year than we were last year. We need to line up under center with two fullback/TEs in the backfield and see what C4 can get us. Or run play action out of that. We have that Cowboy back coach, let’s freaking use him. C4 got us from the 3 yd line to the 1 yd line. Sark didn’t trust him from the 1 yd line to the EZ. I would have much rather seen C4 try for it with some lead blockers and get stuffed rather than that pathetic QB sneak
-
That is obviously false. The throw to endries on the sideline was very well feathered. Many of the passes he did poorly with he has done perfectly fine with in the past. He does need work controlling his velocity.
-
Another aspect to consider- maybe Sark didn’t want this game vs Ohio State to be his best called game of the season, or the peak game. Those Michigan and Bama games were great, probably the best called game of the season. That was especially important to get the Bama win in the 4 team CFP era. In this 12 team era, maybe it’s best to save some stuff for say the Florida game. Especially when he saw something was up with Arch (nerves). Could have been a problem wasting wrinkles just for drives to stall
