  1. Do you think concessions don't NET Texas money every time they have an event? I think you think Texas gets more money from participating in the Citrus Bowl than they actually do. That is not the benefit. The benefit is the extra practice and playing time for backups, which this scenario could also achieve.
  2. The payout for the Citrus Bowl is on the order of $8 to $10 million, which is split 16 ways between conferences. I would be shocked if the Texas couldn't come out with better profit from this.
  3. For an average ticket price of $200 for a low estimate of 80,000 people, that is $16 million before sales of anything else. Texas couldn't put on a football game (a la enhanced spring game, which they used to do for free) for $16 million?
  4. Hell, fans of most teams in Texas not located in Lubbock or College Station would probably rather go to a game in Austin than wherever their teams are going bowling (if they're going bowling at all).
  5. Love to see it. It's cold up there in Ohio and Michigan. The Buckeyes and Wolverines need some heat in their lives.
  6. I would rather see Texas play a team like Texas State, Houston, TCU literally any Texas team in Austin than see Texas play an exhibition vs a mediocre team in a bowl game. If it's about getting backups reps, it would scratch that itch. It could be a celebration of the season at home and would cater to many more fans than the bowl game. Probably more revenue for Texas. Fans could make it a point to show up to the game out of financial support of the team (like the first game of the season against a nobody, which are actually some of my favorites to go to). And the added benefit relative to the first game of the season is it wouldn't be hot as hell. Could keep the party going on all day in Austin. Screw exhibition bowls against mediocre teams.
  7. More seriously, a loss by Texas in a bowl game, especially to a sorry team like Michigan, WILL be used as justification for their exclusion in the CFP. Even if 50% of our team opts out while 100% of Michigan's team opts in. Happened to Bama in 2024 and FSU in 2023.
  8. With as illogical as the CFP committee is, they will probably use a Texas loss to Michigan in a bowl game this year as a tiebreaker next year should it come to that.
  9. You don’t say? I actually thought losing to Florida was a good thing, so thanks for clarifying
  10. Wow, I didn’t realize not losing to UGA would have made us 10-2 with another top 10 win! 😂 The annoying thing is that people and the CFP committee don’t take into account the actual way the game was played, just the final score. And they’re not even consistent with it. For instance, the following combination: 1. Texas had the ball with the ability to tie both the OSU and Florida games late in the 4th quarter. But we got “dominated” 2. Texas was up on Vandy by 24 pts in the 4th quarter before starting to play prevent with backup DBs and run the clock out. Vandy was down by 10 pts until 33 seconds left. The last they had the ball with the opportunity to tie the game was their first possession, a 4 play 4 yard drive ending in a fumble. But that’s a “close game” and not “domination”
  11. Happier with him going to Ohio State than Oregon. F- Oregon
  12. The more I think about it, the more I really want Texas to opt out of a bowl unless it’s ND or Miami
  13. The annoying thing is Michigan will probably have way fewer opt outs than us. Same crap happened when they played Bama. Same for the 2022 UW game But we’ll have to hear it forever if we lose to Michigan. This is the last opportunity for this Michigan team to get a ranked win this season
  14. I think the Citrus is tier one by itself and gets first dibs. So that would be why we’re there. There are multiple tier 2 SEC tied in bowls and I think SEC has say in those which teams they assign to those
  15. I think we could maximize participation and meaning vs ND or Miami. it is what it is
  16. We should opt out as well unless we can play ND or Miami. #13 should be playing #11 or #12. #13 playing #19 is extra meaningless
  17. A win over 2025 Michigan is nowhere close to being a win over 2023 Michigan. Michigan is the most overrated 9-3 team in the country
  18. The problem isn’t winning the game. The problem is Texas gets no credit if we win and won’t move up rankings or anything. We would if we played and beat ND or Miami
  19. Michigan hasn’t come within 11 pts of any ranked team they’ve played. I’d put my life on Texas -3.
  20. I hate that we’re gonna play Michigan. Really do. Nothing to gain. Winless vs ranked teams. It will just be a win margin comparison game at best
  21. Where is the order?
  22. vs ND or Miami Is this a possibility? Screw the Citrus vs Michigan
  23. There should be an explicit rule that makes 8-4 teams ineligible. I do not ever want to hear an 8-4 team whine about being excluded. And Texas will never deserve in at 8-4 under any circumstance. 6-6 bowl eligible 9-3 CFP eligible
  24. The intense pressure of needing to come in and beat top 10 teams and resurrect a program with unrealistic expectations from complete collapse, at this point. Why would a promising G5 coach or 2nd tier P4 coach leave their programs where they have decent odds of making the CFP, to go to a program where it will be way more difficult? Those types of coaches are better off staying where they are with continued success in the “juniors” until a more favorable high profile job opens up. At worst they can just wait to be the “next guy” at PSU after the immediate next guy after Franklin has to deal with the fallout.
  25. The PSU football program existed for 84 years before JoePa and won 3 total bowl games. I think it is a stellar argument. Why should a program be guaranteed success because there was one successful coach before you? What is Penn State’s recruiting base? Not great.
