Sarkisian credits Venables' defense for getting after the quarterback very well and being able to create turnovers. Points to it being the two best attributes of the defense for OU right now.

QB Quinn Ewers "has been making steady progress from one day to the next" without any signs of setbacks, says Steve Sarkisian.

Sarkisian says the Texas OL/QB rooms use the term "cookin' steaks" to describe when there is a lot of time to throw the football thanks to clean pass protection. Points to the second TD pass to DeAndre Moore as one of those key moments.

Sark says he doesn't see a dramatic difference between SEC and Big 12 officiating so far this season.

Sarkisian says he is as concerned about the duration of the season as anybody. Wants to be sure there is health and depth for the Longhorns both physically and mentally as the season continues to linger on.

Sark says it's been frustrating in the return game since there just haven't been many opportunities. Says "When teams don't score, they don't kick off." And of course opponents are averaging 7.0 ppg against Texas so far. Did add it was encouraging to see Silas Bolden with an explosive return in the punt game.

Sarkisian says there were some alignment and assignment issues against Miss State on Saturday which allowed for some runs to get out of the box. Still, he says the unit has been playing very well collectively on the defensive side of the ball.

Texas was called for five holding penalties. "Those are taking away from positive yards and putting us behind the chains." Sarkisian says it is a hard way to live with the number of self-inflicted wounds they are committing at the moment offensively.

Texas is +2 on the turnover margin – "that is not where we want to be."

Texas averaged 8.4 yards per play on Saturday. 1 out of every 4 plays was hitting as an explosive play.

Sarkisian says the offense has great balance at the moment. Texas is averaging just under 200 yards rushing the football and throwing for over 300. Credits the OL and creativity the offense is able to play with. Sarkisian also points to Ewers and Manning to execute.

Sarkisian says this is the first bye week he has gone into at Texas undefeated. Is pleased with the win prior to the bye week for morale.

The Texas OL has the best pass-blocking efficiency rate of any FBS team in the country per PFF. Efficiency is basically percentage of clean blocking reps (no sacks allowed) vs. number of total pass blocking snaps.

Another week, another honor for one of Kyle Flood's offensive linemen. Texas LT Kelvin Banks Jr. has been named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week for his play against Mississippi State on Saturday. Through five weeks, Banks becomes the third different Texas offensive lineman to receive the honor from the SEC, joining Cam Williams after Colorado State and Jake Majors after Michigan.

A few visitors that were on campus for this game outside of the ones that were reported. Mostly in the 2026 class. *** Texas did host 2025 Midlothian OL Nelson McGuire for the Miss State game. McGuire holds 24 offers and took official visits to Texas Tech and Arkansas in the summer and has trips to Clemson, Vanderbilt and Auburn squared up for this season. Kyle Flood has yet to offer, McGuire is a possible senior evaluation with a stop in Sulpher Springs possible for the Longhorn staff. *** Of course the highlighted player in the 2026 class was DL Dylan Berymon who spoke with our @Gerry Hamilton after the visit. Get a look at what Berymon had to say to OTF: *** Willis 2026 star athlete Jermaine Bishop Jr. made it to campus. Bishop is one of the top overall athletes in the country. *** 2026 Sulphur Springs OL Vincent Johnson Jr. was on campus for the visit. Johnson Jr. stands 6-foot-5 and north of 300 pounds already. He holds offers from Oklahoma, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, UTSA, UTEP and UNT. Really strong start to the DFW prospect's recruitment. Johnson is one to watch for Texas in the 2026 class. *** A handful of Prosper prospects were on campus for the Miss State game as well. The first being 2026 OL Bryce Gilmore. Already a national top-250 prospect in the country for the 2026 class, Gilmore holds 23 offers at the moment. Texas has yet to offer but obviously there is interest. The other being 2026 DL Jake Johnson who was on our pregame visitors list. Johnson holds North Texas and Washington State offers early. *** 2026 WR Mike Brown out of Legacy the School of Sports Sciences in Houston, Texas was back at Texas again on Saturday. Brown is the son of former A&M linebacker Reggie Brown, who was a first round pick in the NFL Draft. Brown has visited Texas three times since receiving his offer at the Elite Camp on June 1. Texas is going to be a player here for the junior with 10.9 sophomore speed.
