  1. As long as it’s one more than the opponent 🤣. I agree they are going to have to out score teams until they can get the arms to have some basic command. Too many cookies and free passes so far. There is still time to get better. They just won a series against what we think is one of the better teams in the conference. Goes without saying issues are a lot easier to correct when they’re winning.
  2. Gage Boehm has 11 innings pitched, 15 k’s and zero walks. He does have 3 hit batters but he’s the one for me to be the go to pen guy. Grant Fontenot has a lot of talent. It’s almost like all the pitchers are pressing too hard.
  3. I expect we will see a lot of movement, both positive and negative in the polls this season as long as the pitching is so wild. I don’t remember seeing so many Longhorn pitchers miss their target by feet on 3 ball counts. Pretty crazy. I still have faith the pitching staff will improve. The next couple of weeks will tell us a lot where this team could end up come May.
  4. Happy birthday Blake!!
  5. When he announced he was returning for his senior year. That was Mack’s first recruiting win.
  6. I think coach Miller has either developed some bad habits or hasn’t evolved like he should or both. I have no inside knowledge that’s just my gut. If that’s the case getting rid of Miller isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
  7. Thanks Blake! 👊 I’m just guessing here but curious if Miller and Tulo butted heads. Miller has been with coach Pierce a long time.
  8. This is awesome!! 🤘🤘
  9. I enjoy watching softball. The reaction times are crazy! The chatter is a little much sometimes 😂
  10. I would have to put Texas State ahead of the Horns
  11. He does. I was surprised when I heard he made that decision.
  12. Yeah next year’s team may be Vic’s best team he’s ever had. Should be a good run if all goes well.
  13. Hopefully this is just a bump in the road. Texas has been in Omaha 2 of the last 3 years and last year they made it to a super regional. I’m still fairly confident this team will improve and be a contender for the conference championship in a couple of months.
  14. Watching the Johnston High School Rams (one of the two high schools I went to) play for a chance to go to state championship in 1988, watching Kevin Von Eric and gang wrestling in mid 80’s, and yeah I went to a Beastie Boys concert there in the 80’s 🤦‍♂️
  15. I enjoyed that guys! To me the speed of the game should be sped up just a little.
  16. JM wasn’t my selection in the poll (mine was Mayfield) but JM is easy to hate. He was bad for the sport. Thank the lord for Mack Brown not bringing that crazy train to Austin.
  17. Brain fart. It happens. Especially to those of us who are over 50. Y’all younger guys get ready it’s coming.
  18. NIL played a role on some level in these top portal targets in my opinion. I think this is an area Texas fell behind in on the baseball side. The timing and dates for baseball between the draft and portal window makes it tough. Coach Pierce has admitted that. Other coaches are obviously figuring it out. Hopefully he’s got a solid plan for this year’s portal window and good NIL backing.
  19. I thought Coach Shirley’s response was hilarious “Jolly Green Giant”🤣
  20. Coach Pierce is a good coach and knows baseball. BUT he has some glaring issues that keep coming up year after year. The portal is one of them as mentioned (he hasn’t figured out how to manage the recruiting and portal dates very well like other coaches have). He also has a track record at Texas of average bullpen pitching, constant staff changes and either bad talent evaluation or player development or (mostly likely) at times a combination of both. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying he needs to go at all. There’s just a number of areas where he needs to improve in my opinion. I do think the team will improve a lot as the season progresses because that is also his track record. Hopefully sooner than later.
  21. I hear his numbers are not going to tell the whole story. He got a lot better at the end of the season. In a radio interview last fall Coach Pierce even commented on the number of pitchers returning and already having his weekend starting rotation in place with LBJ, Witt and Hurley. I think even Coach Pierce is surprised at his performance so far this year.
  22. Lol Coach Pierce is still trying to figure out what arms he has and doesn’t have. To be fair It’s not uncommon to see teams at a “work in progress” stage early in the season and this has been Coach Pierce’s MO. Problem with this year is he has a lot less time to figure out solutions before facing tougher competition again. There are a couple of early signs of concern with the pitching staff for me. Charlie Hurley has regressed from where he was last year. David Shaw was supposedly much improved and while he’s not any worse than last year I don’t see that he’s any better.
  23. Texas baseball took it on the chin this weekend at Minute Maid going 0-3 for the weekend against LSU, Texas State and Vanderbilt. The Good- the offense got bad on its horse after the LSU game scoring 21 runs in the last 2 games. The bad- Horns pitching staff allowed 31 runs and serving up entirely too many cookies giving up 7 home runs on the weekend. The ugly- 20 strikeouts Friday night against LSU. Lost a lead late against Texas State Saturday followed by a monumental collapse today against Vanderbilt losing 14-11 after racing out to a 11-3 lead. Coach Pierce has historically turned things around after slow starts to the season. Only this year he doesn’t have much time with the Aggies coming to town Tuesday followed a trip to Lubbock next week to start conference play. This is probably his biggest challenge yet. Hopefully this weekend will light a fire in the team, most importantly the pitching staff. We’ll see.
  24. Yes sir I agree. If Texas makes it to Omaha he’s going to need to be a factor in a couple of months.
