  1. Watched a good bit of Mateer and can't say he's a solid passer. He's adequate against low level competition, especially outside of the pocket when guys get open because the defense breaks down. We'll see if Mateer has the athleticism do that against SEC competition. He hasn't displayed it, which is what the numbers above show. I don't care about his emotion. That works both ways. We'll see how emotional he is when Anthony Hill closes on him like a rocket and knocks the crap out of him.
  2. I talked to criminal sooner fans and others about this who claimed Mateer was a great pick up. The general criminal response was "Baker Mayfield." The non criminal response was he's gotta be better than Arnold.
  3. Doubt we get official numbers for some time. Criminal insiders are saying he got more than the 400k to which they lowered him. Some are saying he got more than the original 800k. Don't know. Whatever the final number is, it can't help but be a problem in the locker room for how it was handled. Same thing for future high school and portal recruiting. That's why Nagy and Venables are dumb and dumber.
  4. This is the best possible thing that could have happened from our perspective. Criminals cut Stone's NIL because he just wasn't earning it. Stone enters portal. Criminal fans go nuts about "five stars," creating PR nightmare for the program. Stone returns for money. How does that play in the locker room and with future recruiting? We're gonna have to start calling Nagy and Venables "dumb and dumber."
  5. Could be. Emergence of Jonah could help offset it. If Belyeu returns close to what he was, still have even better chance.
  6. Can't go to the Aggies unless he wants to sit a year. No transfer within the SEC in the spring portal.
  7. Good move by Nagy to cut bait here. Doesn't mean it will make a difference in the long run. Can't hire a top coach with Nagy calling the shots. You can talk all the "NFL model" you want. It's still not the NFL.
  8. Obviously true. Auburn cost us an SEC championship.
  9. Expected or not, don't like it. Past real contributor.
  10. Tell him to go the hell and be done with it. Kobe didn't make 4 mil in 1999.
  11. Nobody but Arch is worth 4 million.
  12. Who is asking for 4 mil?
  13. My father was on an air craft carrier in the eastern Mediterranean then. They readied B1 nuclear jets for Israel and Russia. They kept yelling "First strike. We'll win," as they got ready.
  14. Good Friday. Closest The US ever came to nuclear war. 20 October 1973. I was one year old. Kissinger was in Moscow negotiating with the Soviets about the Yom Kippur War. Nixon was back in Washington dealing with Watergate. He gave Kissinger full presidential powers. General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev told Kissinger the Soviets were going send troops into Israel. Kissinger invented the statement ,"We'll blow you back to the stone age." Soviets were trying to play domestic troubles against Henry. Kissinger went back to his room and ordered Defcon 3, which meant nuclear weapons ready. Steel balls. Soviets backed down.
  15. At the risk of being knocked again by Matthew, reminds me of Henry Kissinger telling his staff in an October 1976 classified meeting about the death Mao that it didn't matter who won the election or what the Soviets and Chinese did, there was no way they could generate the wealth to compete with US in the long run.
  16. Hopefully he has good lawyers and he's confident about his chances. There are quite a few jacklegs out there, both as prosecutors and defense attorneys. Judges too. Take this House case. No chance the NIL third party "fair value" part withstands judicial scrutiny. There's no precedent for "fair value" in history. The market is by definition "fair value." Given it's northern California, I guess it's understandable the judge doesn't quite get that. Can't withstand the Fifth Circuit, to say nothing of the Supreme Court.
  17. Johnny Gill singing background on the left.
  18. "Texas A&M looks really good all of the sudden. Say what you want, but that series is going to be a tough one." Dang Aggies.
  19. Ant Hill needs to watch some 80s boys ball and sing live.
  20. Wonder if that means Arch won't sign anything at fan appreciation day next Saturday.
  21. I remember watching the evening news on 10 November 1989. I was a freshman at Texas then, 17 years old. It was the day after the Berlin Wall fell. Reporters were in the oval office talking to President Bush and Secretary of State James Baker. The reporters were trying to get them to act excited and gloat over winning the Cold War. Bush and Baker wouldn't even raise an eyebrow. They just excoriated Bush for not showing more "emotion." At the time, I knew he couldn't do it and wondered what they were trying to accomplish. The Soviets still had nuclear weapons and it was an extremely volatile time. News people knew the deal, but they pushed just get a "story." Glad that's not happening now.
  22. Say that to say I think Arch gonna be better in football than Kobe in basketball. We talkin top three all time. Calling the shot.
  23. Pansies in the draft don't work out. Kobe wanted to work out in 1996 when he was 17. Going up against guys who were 22 and even all pros. 17 damn years old and killing all pros in work-outs. In front of Jerry West. Wanted to land with the the Lakers. Boy made it happen. Jerry West was the greatest talent evaluator in the history of the NBA. You can't find that today.
  24. Don't like hearing that Sark talks friendly with Kirby. He dissed you after both losses this past season. Said Texas tried to "cheat" in the first game, and then blamed Sankey and "schedule" for Georgia's problems after the SEC title game. You can't take that kind of crap. We out played and out hit them in the SEC title game, but our kicker lost us the game. He steps up to the mic and blames Sankey for his nonsense. Why would Sark take that?
  25. By the way, I blame Cuban for that. He turned them all into a bunch whiners like him.
