  1. Not really. Words matter. When I wrote "against" I meant competition. I wake up thinking about that kind of stuff. is a contributor to the second volume of the Cormac McCarthy Society's casebook series, titled They Rode On: Blood Meridian and the Tragedy of the American West. He has written articles such as "Borderline Insanity: Modernity As A Political Problem in Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian". His work often involves analyzing McCarthy's use of eschatological symbolism and exploring connections to philosophical frameworks like German Idealism (Schopenhauer and Schelling) and Eastern non-dualism, according to Academia.edu. has also published on other topics, including an article titled "The Stoic Western Hero: Robert B. Parker's Westerns—Part 2"
  2. It's true this isn't the most intellectual board in the world. Maybe I should leave you guys alone. The judge didn't leave the kid alone in Blood Meridian.
  3. My deal is it's basketball, sports, or whatever. We're competing for who's best. I think I can write against anyone in the world. That's how I was trained to write at Texas.
  4. I remember watching live as it happened and thinking, "Why is Kobe doing that? Gonna win." The reason was he wanted to win the next ten years.
  5. What's Kobe telling him? He's saying I'm whipping your ass. You, Carter, McGrady, Don't matter.
  6. Kobe defended Iverson, Iverson never defended Kobe. Let's get real. Iverson didn't want to practice. Kobe practiced on his own at 4:00 AM. Kobe 5--Iverson 0. Defense: Iverson 6'160. LeBrick 6'8" 260.
  7. Go right to Caleb Downs and tell em he gonna light him up.
  8. Iverson complained to the refs that Kobe started it. We need some trash talk like this from Arch against Ohio State. Kobe talking to Iverson and Raja Bell.
  9. I would like to add that the potential for congressional legislation doesn't change anything absent agreement from the players' side. The Supreme Court already voted 9-0 that limiting compensation to players is unconstitutional. Differently stated, if Congress attempts to codify the House Settlement, the Supreme Court will almost certainly strike it down unless there is agreement from the players, which ain't happening.
  10. Legal action is coming soon. We're in good shape either way. If there's an injunction against the clearing house, then it's open season and we're right back to the last several years. If the initial ruling is House stands, you'll see numerous decommits and it's open season.
  11. Received a message this morning from an AI directory asking me to give a summary of my published writings on McCarthy's Blood Meridian or the Evening Redness in the West. I think that's because a movie based on the book is coming out in the not too distant future. Told them to contact Matthew here at OTF. I can't shorten what I wrote, but he knows.
  12. If you're playing behind the pansy three point line, you need to be quick. You can't stand and take two literal seconds to shoot while you put the ball down to your waist and then hoist it from your shoulder the next day. No quickness no nothing. Unless this guy speeds up, he has no chance. Don't pretend otherwise.
  13. Gerry, next time you talk to Raja Bell, ask him if he thinks Kobe had lateral quickness, could he elevate and shoot from the perimeter, could he get over the rim and contest guys six inches taller than him for the ball.
  14. I never knew Kobe wanted to kick Tim Thomas' ass because Thomas was ranked higher than him in high school before this. Better than I ever knew. Mofos can't compare.
  15. Listening to Bobby and Gerry praise Castiglione makes me wonder why I went to Texas. Criminals never won a title without cheating, and they know it. Wilkinson and Switzer made Mao look like an angel. Who cares what criminals do while they are cheating their ass off?
  16. This isn't exactly fair, but it's the NBA. Gerry, next time you talk to Raja Bell, ask him if Kobe had lateral quickness. Could he elevate and shoot from the perimeter? Was he technically skilled? Could he shoot quickly? Could he ball fake and move quickly? Could he beat guys who were six inches taller than him for the ball over rim? Could he face up in the post? Could he play back to the basket in the post? Could he face up or play back to the basket anywhere on the court? Could he do these things at 6'6" 210? With guys much taller and stronger than him?
  17. It's not gonna. Doesn't mean they won't lose recruits they promised money they can't deliver. Let me know when those schools will win a natty before Texas.
  18. Up studying the market. Reminds me of talking to Canadians and Frenchies about Cormac McCarthy in the early days of the internet in 1996. French Canadians: "The judge is purely satirical." "The judge is the god of universe, goobers. Doesn't matter that you don't like it."
  19. You may be right. I consider elite lateral quickness and skill to be a pretty big deal in basketball. I didn't mention Martin. I said Richard. Further, an elite trait or two won't guarantee NBA success, but it's sure hard to get to the NBA without something elite. Again, I didn't see Duru elevate and shoot from the perimeter. All set shots. Didn't see him go over the rim fighting for the ball. Didn't see him shoot or drive quickly. He could be a decent college player without that.
  20. I'd say four. Clayton had elite skill. Condon and Chenyilu played above the rim in the post, especially on defense. Richard could get up, shoot, and power his was to the basket with quickness. Maybe Duru can do something like that. I just didn't see it. I didn't see a single jump shot. Didn't see him go above rim level for a rebound. Didn't see any kind of burst or ball quickness. I sure hope he has some of it.
