Texas was operating at 85 scholarships this season after spending #85 on Marshall Landwehr.

Three departures already are down to 82, there will obviously be plenty more. But you could realistically be looking at 50 new additions to the Longhorn roster in 2026.

Also might be able to hang on to more of those kids thinking about leaving as well

What women's sports will be added? Not just Texas. This will require cutting mens sports or adding women's.

They probably take a few above the 85 limit that they want to hang onto or want to bring in, or have to, as you well noted, increase the number of women’s sports on campus.

I mean. How many soccer teams can you field? Full contact Quidditch?

Everyone’s acting like the new 105-scholarship rule means Texas can suddenly bankroll a small army. Reality check: you can roster 105 guys, but you can’t pay 105 guys.

  • Revenue sharing = a soft salary cap.
  • NIL = still the hunger games.

So what actually happens?
Texas funds the top half of the roster, stashes projects in the bottom half, and the portal becomes a revolving door for anyone who realizes they’re in the “thanks for being here” tier.

The new rule doesn’t create 20 more paid contributors — it just gives Texas 20 more lottery tickets. And Texas loves lottery tickets.

Hook ’em.
