Georgia Beat Reacts to Muschamp Hire

My favorite part of Will Muschamp returning as Defensive Coordinator? Georgia fans and media think it is a grand slam hire. Article linked in the tweets, but this line was notable to me:

“Given that a defensive coordinator as respected as Muschamp will be taking over the defensive roster, the Longhorns will likely be a much tougher opponent moving forward.”

We'll see how it pans out. It's a big gamble for Sark to make. Because Gerry has said it best that once you start moving on from coordinators, then all eyes are on you when it doesn't work out still.

Hoping it helps elevate us to the next level. I had my problems with some of what PK did, but he was instrumental in our success more than he was a detriment.

Well this is sark last stand he has one foot out the door for the nfl anyway. Just my opinion I am also a stupid idiot midwesterner

In my opinion the wheels were in motion after Kirby went for it on 4th down then got the onside kick.   We need someone who will go for the jugular when it is on the line and I’m sorry but that is not PKs style.  Great DC—not a killer.   Muschamp is exactly the kind of coach that will not let our defense come out flat like we did at Florida, or evaporate in 4th quarters.

Yeah but the same could be said of Sark and his offense, no? Great playcaller but has no killer instinct. Never keeps his foot on a teams throat, etc.

This 🎯 we need a killer than can close a game for us. The past few years we ALWAYS let teams hang around. Not all on the defense obviously, but I dont think Sark is done making staff changes. 
 

Ready for this team to have ATTITUDE and go for the kill shot! I like Sark’s approach, it might not work but he is laying it all on the line. THIS is all gas no breaks!

I hope we see it.  It is hard for me to dismiss all the times Sark went for it on 4th down and there were drops, penalties or missed assignments.  He got flat out coached by Kirby last game and I hope these changes are the ones that put us over the top.  I would love to know what went on behind the scenes after Georgia.

I’m a little curious how in 2023 we were 2nd in 3rd down defense and 8th in 2024 but that is indicative of “bend but don’t break defense.”  That’s counterintuitive.

I disagree. Obviously Muschamp was his first choice but timing was bad as stated here. Now that timing works, and PK hasn’t been stellar, it opened it up to finally happening.

If your dream becomes available, even if you have to wait a few years, you gonna turn it down? Especially if what you settled for hasn’t been all that great?

Some people look at these things all wrong. This is nothing like the Venables last ditch effort hiring/firing. This was a chance to optimize. Ofc you take that chance.

A significant bonus to hiring WM, aside from taking the D up a notch in attention to detail and aggression, is an inside look at the UG defensive details and an opposing coach's scouting report on your offense. Both instrumental in defeating UG down the road, and critical information PK could never provide.
