TexasMDcoach Posted yesterday at 12:09 AM Posted yesterday at 12:09 AM How lucky are we that the youngsters had another year of RH to model after. I think we may be better next year than this with continued development of Preston, Crump, Jordan Lee and all the new comers. 5 Quote
LonghornFan4Ever Posted yesterday at 02:57 AM Posted yesterday at 02:57 AM First comes the coach, then comes the players, then comes the hardware. It’s only a matter of time before this program breaks through and reaches the top of the mountain. Could happen multiple times in the next 5-10 years and longer if the right successor is picked. 1 Quote

That's definitely the pipe dream - at this point mens basketball has never had the "Duke or Kentucky" level rosters At this point, zero history in mens basketball to support that will ever happen. Texas isn't a destination school in mens CBK Quote

Michigan, Florida, etc. are examples of football schools that regularly compete at a high level in basketball that we should also be striving for. Quote

Texas isn't a destination school in mens CBK I'd argue that infamous 2009-10 roster that made it to #1 and then Barnes blew up mid-season was on that level for sure. That team had a McDonald's All-American as a walk-on. It also still keeps me up at night thinking about what CJ Miles could've/should've been for the 05-06 team or how glorious it would've been if we could've talked LaMarcus, PJ & Boobie into coming back to play one year with DJ & KD. One other thing, I know you mentioned Harden was close to coming to Texas and I know Texas gave him a look but elite guard in that class that I remember was extremely close to coming was Jerryd Bayless. Now while he didn't have the pro career Harden had I wonder how his size and athleticism would've helped vs a D-Rose & Memphis. Quote

And the 2022-23 team if the Beard situation doesn’t happen and more importantly if Dylan Disu doesn’t get hurt in the Sweet Sixteen. UConn still would’ve been a tough matchup in the Final Four, but if you somehow got by them, Texas would’ve had a favorable matchup with San Diego State in the national title game. Quote

TexasEx_10 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago What’s the difference between MBB and WBB? WBB signed the #1 recruiting class and rumors are they spent big. I frequent other boards and SC, LSU and Iowa mods consistently talk about the unfair NIL advantage Texas WBB has. Is that all BS? Quote

I don't see Coach Vic going anywhere anytime soon. He runs daily, and loves his job. With the kids he's bringing in, why should he retire? I see him staying for another 10 years minimum. His assistant coaches need to get head jobs somewhere else and be part of the Vic coaching family. Quote

I could see him coaching into his 70s and hand it off to Blair (like Coach K did with Jon Scheyer) or they’ll hire a proven winner externally once he retires. But he has a chance to take the program to heights that even Jody Conradt did not reach and win multiple national championships. The biggest competition will of course be South Carolina and LSU in conference and UConn out of conference, but the way they’re recruiting high school and internationally, utilizing the portal, and developing players, they will be a pain to deal with for a while. But that Texas team wasn't close to a normal blue blood roster. Beard is legitimate great coach that has messed it up. Not a current NBA player on that team. Couple of two-way contract guys Quote

Texas women's basketball is top tier program in their college sport. A history of elite winning. An NC, 4 Final Four's, 13 Elite 8's, etc... I think Texas womens NIL advantage is real - in terms of where they sit. But maybe a little overblown too. The whole deal with women's college hoops IMO is ... there isn't depth of talent in the women's game. There is a substantial drop off between you top tier and second tier, and a huge drop off after that. If a tier 1/blue blood hires a high end coach in the women's game, they can be very elite or dominant because of the lack of depth of talent. Texas has done that with Vic. Texas men aren't even close to that. Near zero history of winning on an elite level. Never played for an NC. One FF since 1947, etc... Not near a tier 1 or blue blood. Not a destination school in their sport. etc Quote

Above average, yes in my adult lifetime. Texas is an above average program historically, and since 2000. A top 25 level program. But truly doing what it takes to take the next step over time? No. What I would label as content, yes. Quote
Califashorn75 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago Blair doesn't need to follow her dad at Texas. She needs to go forge her own trail. Once Coach Vic leaves, CDC will already have someone in mind. And that individual will be proven, have experience, and a winning record. Quote
