Lets see how Cal adjust to NIL/transfer era....going freshmen heavy doesn't seem like the best strategy anymore.

Apparently Arkansas (Tyson family mostly) is going to have Cal operating with 5-6 mill NIL a year over life of his contract. That dog will hunt ... for instance Texas is in the 3 mill range annually. Arkansas cis throwing blue blood money at hoops for the next 4-5 years. Cal's contract + NIL.

And I agree with you ... I believe he's about to make a change in that regard to a level. Roster construction the key now a days.

This is a stunner.

not really, there were rumors Kentucky was going to walk away from Cal if they could get a buyout lower than the $30mil....

It should shock no one that Terry's name is not on anyone's short list with all these jobs opening up.

The problem with Calipari, he's not a good coach at all. He's a roll the basketball out there type of guy. He's also a guy that cheated his ass off, and now that is normalized across the sport. He will still get talent, but his teams will never be great in March.

Thought they would go after Beard.  He would have been a better hire for sure.

Kentucky will try on Dan Hurley and a couple of others ... but if Ky ever ended up with Beard - he would be a great personality fit.

1. Memphis would take Cal back in a heartbeat.  He is a very good coach.  My question regarding the hire is whether his heart is really in coaching any longer.  I think too many of these guys stick around for the paycheck.  He may be one.

2. AS has been their M.O., Arkansas is looking for a quick fix.  They have run through some really good football and basketball coaches over the years.  Other than Broyles, no one could navigate the Ozark gods.

3. For the poster that continues to imply that great coaches don't need great players, Of the handful of truly great coaches that I have met, each has always maintained that great players make great coaches.  They, of course, are being modest.  But I can assure you that you can't take Bessie off the plow and win the Kentucky Derby............

Here we are Gerry. My all time favorite game. Kobe for 48 and 16 on 13 May 2001 against the Kings at 22 years old. Followed by the 45 against Duncan, Robinson and the Spurs in Game 1 of the WCF. Nothing like it today.

Greatest basketball from a 22 year old. Gerry what say you?

Certainly possible! Who is else would be the competition at 22? Shaq was a talent unlike anything I have seen at the same age - just one guy as a possibility. Shaq averaged 29 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks at 22 years old for the Magic

Shaq didn't lead a team to a title at 22. Magic did at 20, but he didn't have as many consistently dominant games as Kobe did in 2001. I'm sticking with Kobe as the best ever at 22.

Well, Orlando was only a third year franchise when Shaq was drafted. That means they would have had to win the title as a fifth year franchise when Michael Jordan was in his prime Bulls years!

Shaq's game log at 22 years old (season)

Doesn't compare favorably to Kobe in the 2001 playoffs. I'm not saying Kobe is the straight best ever. He's the best as a 22 year old in high pressure situations. My god that guy balled out against Sacramento and San Antonio. I remember watching live as it happened. Couldn't believe it then. Long for something like that now.

One way to think of it is Kobe scored 45 against the Spurs with Duncan and Robinson guarding the rim (and he went to the rim constantly) and a great perimeter defense when 100 points for a team was a high number. It's not like today when they play no defense and every team scores 120 every night. I can't even stand to watch the no defense nonsense today.
