Yes. But to those who would panic in response: again, "2026 portal rankings" are not "overall 2027 roster rankings."

If you lose your whole team or they all sucked, then you need to go heavy in the portal (and have money to do so). When you return a bunch of production, you don't need to go as heavy in the portal (and don't have as much money to do so anyway).

Does Texas still have needs to fill? Absolutely. But we shouldn't conflate "portal rankings" with "how good we will be in 2027"

Those ranking reward quantity. South Carolina had to sign a completely new roster. 24 guys. Missouri would crawl over broken glass for our current portal class.

Taking a handful of impact players > taking 15 average joes.

Prime example: the #4 “best” portal class last year belonged to…..South Carolina. The #15 “best” portal class belonged to…Texas. Which one was actually better?

Trust me, I understand everything you said.

It’s pretty evident when you see LSU doing what they are doing, meanwhile we have people talking about the 70’s with Cliff Gustafson and “energizing” boosters with our hall of fame coach.

Yep…it’s why we have generally underachieved in the big 3 with baseball being the outlier but it has also been 20 years now since we’ve produced a title there. You hear it with some of the mods here and fans, “we made it to Omaha.”

Let's play a game.

Let's look at the first two years for various coaches who are/were considered some of the best coaches around....

Coach 1:
76-46 | Regional, Super Regional

Coach 2:
85-35 | Two Regional Appearances

Coach 3:
80-46 | Regional, CWS Appearance, Won Conference

Coach 4:
72-47 | One Super Regional Appearance

Coach 5:
69-48 | One Regional Appearance

Coach 6:
82-47 | CWS Final Four, Regional Appearance, Won Division (but not conference)

Coach 7:
52-54-1 | No postseason appearances

Coach 8:
90-29 | Regional Appearance, CWS Appearance, Won Conference

Coach 9:
72-48 | CWS appearance

Coach 10:
71-48 | Regional Appearance

Any guesses on which coaches these are? And based off those first two years of accomplishments, who would you want the most?

Not a great answer but it depends.  I’d have to look at the previous 3ish year trend at each program before these coaches took over?

i'm guessing Schloss is Coach 3

He's 8 (Texas) and 6 (A&M) for sure.

Not Coach 3 - I don't think Schloss went to the CWS in his first 2 years at TCU. I think 3 is Van Horn.
