Moderators Blake Munroe Posted 1 hour ago Moderators Posted 1 hour ago As first reported by Softball America, Texas is expected to hire Southeastern Louisiana Head Coach Rick Fremin to fill one of their assistant coaching vacancies. Fremin arrives at Texas with a proven track record of building winners. He spent 11 seasons as the head coach at Southeastern Louisiana, compiling a 348-197 record there and more than 700 career wins overall. His teams became nationally known for aggressive baserunning, leading Division I in stolen bases or stolen bases per game nine times during his tenure. He also developed numerous award-winning players, including multiple all-region and all-conference selections. Former Texas assistants Kristen Zaleski and Ehren Earleywine departed the program over the last two weeks. 22 1 Quote

Springhorn Posted 43 minutes ago Posted 43 minutes ago He’s an accomplished head coach and it’s a great get for Mike White so why would he give up that position now to come be an assistant here? Seems like he’d be looking for a bigger opportunity to lead a program instead. 1 Quote
Hunter_B2725 Posted 42 minutes ago Posted 42 minutes ago When are they gonna announce the signing of Isa Torres? 2 Quote
TTown Posted 42 minutes ago Posted 42 minutes ago Read where his wife coached there as well. Not saying we get a 2 for 1 lol. But she is she gets a role somewhere. Nothing but good reviews so far. 1 Quote

The ASU head coach was assistant for White and Steve Singleton now HC at Cal Berkeley. Edited 35 minutes ago by GoHorns1 2 Quote

Could be a springboard to him getting a HC gig at a power conference program. 3 Quote

Ronald Dato Posted 16 minutes ago Posted 16 minutes ago Blake, does SE Louisiana have any really good players in the portal or a current team member (that Texas could be interested in) that might enter the portal to follow their former HC to Texas?? Quote

Seems like he’d be looking for a bigger opportunity to lead a program instead. Southeastern has had arguably two of their best teams in their program history, and didn't get out of the regional. At some point when you can go to a big time program like Texas lead an offense to go for only the third program in college softball history to be a 3-time champion, plus get what is likely a MAJOR pay bump, then you have to answer that call. He is regarded as an incredible offensive mind. Those smaller Louisiana schools (McNeese, Southeastern, Lafayette) are known to have some big time offensive softball. Fremin is one of those better offensive minds. I think you are going to see a MUCH more controlled aggressive ball club at the plate. I think Stewart goes for 30+ homers this year, and we see 2-3 more get into the 20+ homeruns. This is yet again an incredible hire. Quote

Not Blake, but I will chime in quickly. Fremin has lived by the "do more with less" mantra for quite some time. It would be depth/competition pieces IF they did bring in any. I would say that is highly unlikely given the talent at Texas. Edited 3 minutes ago by Cozer Quote
