10 Days Until Kickoff: This One Is A No Brainer

We are ten days away from the start of the season. When it come's to No. 10, there's only one name that comes to mind.... Vince Young

VY finished his Texas career 30-2 as a starter, won his final 20 consecutive games and produced 9,167 yards of total offense with 81 total touchdowns.

Then there was the unforgettable 2005 season:

13-0. 3,036 passing yards. 1,050 rushing yards. 38 total touchdowns. Maxwell Award. Davey O’Brien Award. Manning Award. Consensus All-American. Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. And most importantly...

National Champion.

When Texas needed him most against USC, Young delivered one of the greatest performances in college football history: 467 total yards, three rushing touchdowns and the game-winning score on 4th-and-5.

His No. 10 is retired at Texas and he is now a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

So for No. 10?

It’s Vince Young and then everybody else.

My dad came home early to watch the pregame with me for the game.  We watched all of the post game together and then around 2AM they started rerunning the game on TV and we watched it all again.  Top 3 memories of just me and my dad up late trying to be quiet but 4th and 5 makes it impossible.

I remember when Saxton got knocked out with a knee to the helmet against TCU.  I believe the final was 6-0 TCU and if I remember correctly, the weather was horrendous.

Saxton was my first Longhorn hero. My first Longhorn jersey was #10.

I was at the game but I don’t remember the weather being bad. He got knocked out on a punt return I think. Holy cow that was 65 years ago. I am old.

I know what you mean, but I must correct my post above.  Texas played TCU in the odd numbered years in Austin, so both of the upsets from '59 and '61 occured at home...

By the way there are still quite a few of us from that era! ☺️

It was either 1970 or 71, I was serving as a host at a function in Athens, Tx and was sitting next to a young man named Buddy Iles. It took me a while to realize who I was sitting next to. We got a pretty good laugh when I told him my real feelings about him. He caught the 50 yard TB to beat the Longhorns in that 61 game. 🤘🏻
