Help request - questions re: finding game tickets via Tx-Ex and others, avoiding scams

If this isn't allowed here I sincerely apologize and I  hope someone can point me to the proper place.

I graduated from UT in the mid-90’s and my youngest son (high school junior) has asked me for years to bring him back for a game and to take him around campus because Texas is his #1 school. We have lived out of state a long time (health issues, wife’s mother) so it’s been about a decade since we made a Longhorns game.
 

I know at least once I went early to the Texas Exes ticket thing, but I don’t remember if getting there super early helped for a line, if it was a lottery, etc.  Can anyone weigh in on what the deal is there?

If I can’t get tickets there and I have to buy on Craigslist or on site, are there any tips for success and to avoid scalping?  Worst case, if I have to go with one of the big online brokers I’d appreciate any tips on the best ones there, too.

It’s just been far too long and I’m sure things have changed. I was hoping an acquaintance of mine might have some or Vet Tix might have some but neither of those routes panned out.

Seatgeek is the official ticket exchange for Season Ticket holders to sell tickets the won’t use. So check there.

Thank you, Rich.  If we wait longer to see if my friends comes through, which I think is probably 10% shot now, do you know how ticket prices for these high interest games behave on Seat Geek in the hours leading up to the game?  I've had a bad habit of buying from those sites too early and seeing prices plummet later, lol.

Buy couple days ahead for big games.   Can do day before to morning off for lesser games.  Do not buy from people saying they are using Ticketmaster to transfer.   There is a Texas Longhorn app to download and that’s the way tickets would be transferred and also placed on seat geek for sale or transfer.

Good advice above.   But, presumably, you know the reason for your “bad habit”….

If you don’t, it’s simple, premium season ticket sellers sell their tickets very late.  Put yourself in the position of being a premium ticket holder, and you can probably guess why.   One hint, I spend as much on my longhorn tickets as my friends who have Cowboy tickets.

Seatgeek is always a good choice. Also Texas Exes have a portal where Exes can sell tickets to other Exes as well.

Which game you looking for? I’d be happy to DM to discuss games. I won’t be able to make every one.

There is a facebook group of people selling Texas tickets.  but you run the risk of scammers.

I'll DM you, but I'll be you're gonna make this one.  It is Texas vs Ohio State (can't believe I neglected to mention that).  I'd normally be looking at something like UTSA for him, but I owe him a huge reward for his grades and scores the last year, lol.

On Facebook there is a group called “University of Texas Ticket Buy/Sell/Trade” that I use sometimes. Tickets tend to be cheaper than resale sites because there are no fees. But do your due diligence to avoid scammers, especially for Ohio State.

Someone mentioned above, but Exes do have a ticket exchange that I used to use when going to games solo and having the flexibility of single seats and more to spend.

I was just about to put my 2 tickets for the home opener this weekend on SeatGeek, but I thought I would at least check to see if you and your son might want to go to the game, as I always prefer to sell to known fans than to the random SeatGeek audience. I am in Europe on vacation and will not be able to go to the 9/5 game vs Texas State.  My two tickets are under the overhang, so you are not in the sun.  Plus I have a nice San Jac parking pass.,  Let me know if you are interested.  Hook'em!

Just me, but official site, be it SeatGeek or StubHub, worth avoiding the risk of scam. No offense to you, but the fact that you started with listing Craigslist as an option tells me you may fall for a scam (I fell for one for World Series tickets many years ago, so speaking from experience).

I've had several folks mention transferring via the Longhorns Athletics account or site. Does that help? I mean, doea that site accept my payment and transfer legit tickets to me when I've paid them?

Ah, I see it is a Evenue site.  I've received and sent tickets to my daughter's school with that before, but I don't think it allows direct exchange whereby the sellers "invoice" me with the tickets in "escrow" and then transfers them to me when my funds are validated.  Bummer. That would be like SeatGeek but reduce fees I'd imagine.  I guess they've cut a deal to ensure SG gets their full cut even when it's Texas fan to Texas fan direct.
