What is the main issue??

@Jeff Howe I’m going to ask you these quick questions because of how quick you got your thoughts out in the live thread during the game. 
 

What is this offense’s main issue? And how does it differ from years past with Sark? Why does it feel like we’re just consistent QB play away from winning it all?

It’s crazy to me that you watched that game where arch had no time from an OL that was under duress the entire time and couldn’t run the ball, and you came out thinking arch was the main problem.

UTSA was Arch. This game was not. Tons of blitzing and then they seemed to only rush 3 so either no time to throw or no one could get open. This seemed to be a great game to run those screens Sarks to run and he never did

Arch was 14/19. He thew a ball into double coverage for an INT, but the offensive offense isn’t on Arch. He doesn’t call the plays or block.

My issue is the blitzes were obvious. He's unable or unwilling to check out of play calls. In year 4 that's not good.

That also speaks to development which is why the questions really rest at Sark's feet.

It’s on Sarkisian.  It begins and ends with him. Elite talent to work with.

He refuses to get an OC. He kept Flood.

There is no excuse to be this inept at times and with this much talent. 
 

Muschamp has an elite defense or better side of the ball in four games.

Arch doesn’t fit the offense. Sark needs to consider consulting his analyst or getting outside help. Right now, this is losing football.

Arch should throw that INT pass 10/10 times again, especially with Coleman’s catch radius ability it just didn’t go our way

For everyone going doom and gloom- look around the country. How many programs are our level?

I count 4: Ohio State, Notre Dame, Miami and UGA. Florida is one dimensional.

We’ve had the toughest schedule in the country so far and have come out undefeated, a 3rd of the way through our schedule. 

The issues this game were the OL and Smothers being out.

These types of wins are good- survived, but plenty to coach ups Tennessee revealed some weaknesses. Surprise, surprise. It’s a Jim Knowles defense with a hell of a D line

Last week, I felt it was mostly on Arch.

After the initial watch today, I put a lot of it on Sark. I don't know if he was trying to swerve Knowles or believed in what he was calling, but the three scoring drives (especially the two touchdown drives) looked drastically different than the rest of the game.

We have an erudite Offensive Coordinator who doubles as the Head Coach, and who thinks his offense needs to be NFL quality in spite of playing the sport of college football.

The result is a way too complicated offense for 18-21 year olds to execute effectively, designed to be win games the NFL way…by 3 points.  Sark conpletely eschews the types of offenses most college utilize (many to great effect), and because Sark is so singularly focused on his NFL offense, he clearly doesn’t spend the time needed to teach his players basic football IQ - avoiding penalties, special teams, basic clock management, etc. 

How many five star QBs are we going to see “underperform” in this offense before we figure out what the real problem is?

You know I have said for a long time that with all the demands a head coach at Texas has on his time each week I don’t think a coach has enough time to watch the amount of tape you have to watch to be ready to call plays.  I remember Herman saying he had to find 30 minutes to even get on the elliptical.  They have so many interviews per week that they just don’t have time.  I would imagine the young wife is in his er about you need to be home to see the baby.  You have to watch an unreal amount of tape to be ready to call plays.  I am sure he has to rely on Milwee and that other QB coach pass game coordinator or whatever they call him.  Sark is not going to ever give up play calling but I think it’s a problem.  He’d probably be elite if all he had to do was prepare the offense and no interviews

Exactly.  Continuing to call long developing pass plays vs the blitz is mind numbing.
