QuanCosbysBurner Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Hypothetically speaking, IF Sark were to hire an actual play calling Offensive Coordinator who would you guys want/fit the scheme Sark wants to run? Quote
HookedOnTF Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Is the hiring priority teaching/installing, or game day playcalling and adjustments? The first would be more of a teacher, the latter could be a NFL guy. But the crux on the first is finding a guy thats great at teaching college athletes who can Grok Sark's NFL playbook and system, while an NFL guy might only know how to work with pros - possibly very transactionally too. Jbro52 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago The guy from UCLA is is the closest schematically from what I’ve seen and still want Sark doing the opening script Quote
coltonmartinez Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Though Brennan Marion’s offense at Colorado has been bad, I think with the right tools, Sark could trust him! 1 Quote
Nate C Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago anyone who runs the wide zone, play action style offense with a mix of the spread. That would fit Sarks desire for heavy sets Quote

Moderators Jeff Howe Posted 3 hours ago Moderators Posted 3 hours ago Since we’re talking about this hypothetically (Sark isn’t giving up play-calling, so this is all moot), I want Sark to think back to when he and Lane Kiffin were at USC with Norm Chow. Sark is in the Norm Chow seat. Who’s the next up-and-coming, cutting-edge offensive mind Sark can elevate to the next level? I want Sark to do something similar to what Kirby Smart has done at Georgia. Mel Tucker, Dan Lanning and Glenn Schumann were all in their 30s when they started calling Smart’s defense and only Tucker had defensive play-calling experience before getting into that role at Georgia. Tucker and Lanning became head coaches after being the Georgia DC and Schumann is on his way. The Texas offense will always be Sark’s offense as long as he’s there. But I want Sark to find the next Sark, let him set the world on fire, take a head coaching job and then bring in the next guy who can follow the same path. 1 Quote

Sark has done a lot for Texas and this program. We are in a MUCH better place now than when he got here. Even though he hasn’t won a national title I do believe he’s earned the CEO right. Go out and find that young and hungry OC that wants to make a name for himself and start building your coaching tree. 1 Quote

Sark needs to find his Charlie Weis Jr. Quote

And if Sark were to truly buy into doing it that way, I think it would be the best thing for him and Texas. Sark might not want to admit it, but I think his biggest strength as a head coach is assembling a staff and being the CEO. In the current climate of college football, you need a great CEO as head coach more than you need an X’s and O’s genius. 1 Quote

Sark has impressed me more as a head coach than an offensive coordinator during his time in ATX. That doesn't mean he's nailed every hire, but he's done a great job getting this program elevated from the Strong/Herman mess he inherited. I wish Saban or Kiffin or Carroll or someone he trusts would convince him that hiring an OC wouldn't diminish "the reason [he] was hired." Yes, you were hired to call a great O, Sark. But, beyond that, you were hired to win. Maybe teaching your O to young, hungry coaches - as Saban, Smart, etc. did in their programs - is a good thing! 1 Quote

I wonder if in Sark's mind, giving up play-calling would be admitting defeat. He shouldn't look at it that way. 1 Quote
