Thank you, OTF! (From a UT student)

First off, I realize this might not be the right place to post something like this, so I apologize if it isn't. I just wanted to make sure this reached the OTF crew because it's something I've been wanting to share for a while.

I wanted to come on here and give a massive thank you to @CJ Vogel @Gerry Hamilton @Bobby Burton @Rod Babers @Hank South @Jeff Howe, and everyone else at OTF.

I've been following the show almost daily on YouTube for about a year now, though I'm pretty new to this site. I'm a junior at UT studying math, and until fairly recently, journalism was never something that really interested me. That changed because of you guys.

CJ, your segments in particular have always stood out to me. I remember looking a little deeper into your work one day and coming across some of the stories you'd written for The Daily Texan. I knew that I shared the same passion for college athletics that you guys have, and I've always loved to create. It got me thinking a little bit that sports journalism might actually be something I'd enjoy doing myself, since it blends the two.

So, I decided that I wanted to get my feet wet in sports journalism, maybe as a passion project, but I didn't know exactly where to start.

At the beginning of this semester, I happened to see a poster on campus about The Daily Texan hiring sports reporters. It made me think back to CJ and how he'd gotten his start there. I figured, if someone I watch all the time online started out doing this, why shouldn't I just give it a shot?

So I applied, and I'm super excited to say that I'm now a sports reporter for The Daily Texan! I've had my first few stories published over the past week, and it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences I've had so far at UT.

I don't think I ever would have considered exploring journalism, much less actually applying and putting myself out there, if it weren't for y'all at OTF. You guys helped me discover an interest in sports journalism that I didn't even realize I had, and I'm very grateful for that.

I know this is a little different from the usual posts on here, but I really wanted you guys to know the impact you've had on me. What you guys do at OTF has gone beyond just covering Texas, at least for me. 😄

CJ, Bobby, Gerry, Rod, Jeff, Hank, thank you all for the work you put in every day for this community, and thank you for inspiring me to put myself out there and try something new. In doing so, I’ve discovered a passion I never even knew I had. Hook 'em!

This absolutely rocks!!

Feel free to give me a shout or message me anytime during your sports journey! It's a lot of work, but if you are passionate, it never feels like it, and that's what has made working here at OTF been so fun for me.

The Texan is a great place to start. I spent many nights in the basement down there watching Sunday Night Football during school. So many fun evenings and memories with some great people. I hope you are able to experience the same, and above all, hope you are able to truly fall in love with the sports coverage side of things.

Can't wait to start reading some of your articles! Best of luck and enjoy every step!

Thank you again CJ! I’ll definitely reach out if I ever need some advice along the way. Really appreciate the encouragement. Stay warm out there in CoMo!

Well spoken, young man, and keep up the good work in school. 🤘

Great to have the foresight to share how others have given you the motivation to start your journey. The best advice I ever received was do what makes you happy, work hard, reach out to those in the profession, listen, take notes, create your own niche! Good luck. You are on the right track.
