If Taffe is starting that is not good for our defense. He’s a liability athletically and won’t cut it in the sec where teams have more overall speed than big 12. If you want to use him in red zone, sure. But between the 20s he’s a huge liability because he’s slow.

Well someone needs to take it from him then. It’s not his fault he was the most reliable safety last year and is the starter to open camp. If the guys behind him don’t like it, play better.

Jett Bush is just happy to be passing the message board walk-on whipping boy torch.

And for good reason. Neither of those guys should have ever been starting for a Texas defense or getting significant time. You don’t bring in Mukuba to play Taffe plain and simple.

It's day 1, dude. I guess they shouldn't even make Mukuba earn playing time since he is the walk-in starter.

He’s DEFINITELY not going away, But you’re lying to yourself if you think he’s not going to be a liability athletically and physically. Seen two plays in the spring game that cemented that thought for me. Him begin flat footed on blue’s whip route touchdown and CJ Baxter completely running him over in the open field.

What about the athletic interception against UH last year.

I think you have proven your point. However, keep in mind that Bush and Taffe did or are doing what over 95% of this board have never done, which is play D1 football. Should Texas have all 4 or 5 stars on the field all times, maybe in a perfect world. However, since we do not live in a perfect world we need to keep in mind that these young men are living the dream that so many of us have had but never experienced. So continually pointing out their shortcomings does no favors to this board, the players, or yourself.

Wasn't Taaffe the MVP of two HS State Championship games?

I marveled watching him against Southlake, wondering how he had not been offered by Texas.

Yep. Played both ways for Westlake too. Came up with several HUGE plays as a WR in the North Shore game. A first half TD on a tunnel screen and the long catch on third and a mile to put Westlake in position to win that game.

If you’re better than guys on that incredible NS team, you’re good enough to play at Texas. Really, really happy for him. He’s a Texas Longhorn and Big 12 Champion. Hoping he can add more to his list of accomplishments this season, but nobody can ever take away from him what he’s already accomplished.

He also deserves a Texas-sized hat tip for his role in the Arch Manning recruitment.

This is simply not true. There are tons of HS kids who are on great teams that aren’t good enough for Texas.

Do me a favor and go look at the players on that North Shore team. If you’re better than those dudes, you’re good enough for Texas.

That NS team wasn’t just a great Texas HS team.

Athletically? Maybe. But physically? Hell no. Taff daddy brings the wood when he lowers the pads, and sometimes knowing where to be (which he does. Kids always around the ball) makes up for lack of speed.

Mukoba got toasted today as well.  Funny, Texas fans hate him despite his big plays last year and even a day after Banks said he'll be playing in the NFL.  He's one of of our top 3 safeties by a large margin.

Yes, and recruited one of the biggest recruits ever in college football to Texas.
