SEC Cracking Down on ‘Fake Injuries’

Recommended Posts

Pretty significant Friday news drop.

The SEC will begin punishing head coaches if it is determined a player or team is ‘feigning’ injuries to create timeouts.

Of course, this has been quite the conversation surrounding Ole Miss this season and throughout much of the conference as well. Perhaps not as much in Texas circles, but it will certainly have lasting impacts around the conference.

On first infraction, a head coach will be fined $50,000. A second infraction will be a fine of $100,000. And a third could result in a suspension.

Personally, I think a better solution would have injury timeouts charged as a team timeout.

Frankly, a lot of those nicked guys can get off the field.  I also think any 'injured' player should have to sit out a minimum number of plays..........like 10 or so

It’ll be interesting to see how this is enforced. It can be difficult to determine if some injuries are real or faked. Of course, some are clearly faked (I’m looking at you Ole Miss.)

I agree with other posters here that a team penalty during the game would be better. That will put an end to the shenanigans pretty quickly.

Officials have enough trouble just officiating, I don't want to add things like checking to make sure the player returned before a certain number of plays. Just make it a TO. When the coaches start losing their TOs this stupidity will stop.

I’m of a similar vein.  I like the idea of requiring an injured player to have to sit out the rest of the drive.  Would significantly reduce fake injuries and give medical teams more time to evaluate injuries without the pressure of holding back a player from recentering the game.

That great, but could they also start cracking down on the fake penalties?

Like you say, the league should impose the same fines and suspension on officials for phantom holding calls

I think it would be great if we could have the review booth send medical teams onto the field to conduct a full diagnosis to determine if the injury is legit.

That would really speed up the game.

Just think of the commercials they could get in.
