Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted January 26 Moderators Posted January 26 After wins at home over Missouri and Texas A&M, will Texas make the NCAA Tournament? Wanted to get the pulse of the OTF community Texas is 14-6 and 3-4 in the SEC The Longhorns will need to get to 7-11 to have realistic shot. That would likely be a play in game. 8-10 would likely be a 11'ish seed. So Texas has to at least win 4 of the last 11 to get to 7 wins. And the schedule is tough: @Ole Miss @LSU Arkansas @Vanderbilt Alabama Kentucky @South Carolina @Arkansas Georgia @Mississippi State Oklahoma 12 Quote
Drunk randoke Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Yes. Hope they do well and get in. I maintain RT is not the answer at Texas. I’d love to be wrong. 5 Quote
Joe Zura Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Don’t want to be the negative person here but I don’t think we do with the sec being this dominant this year. Hope I’m wrong 3 Quote
NothinButDaHorns34 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 IF this teams starting to really gel the last two weeks, which is a big IF to ask to void out a bad head coach then yes 1 Quote
bierce Posted January 26 Posted January 26 (edited) There is no way to make an educated guess until we know when Kaluma and Weaver will return to action. And 7-11 won't get us there without a really big win in the conference tournament. Edited January 26 by bierce 9 Quote
JMarquette Posted January 26 Posted January 26 It’s hard to imagine not getting 4 wins in 11 shots - I feel like we are talented enough to at least get 4. Thus, I think we make the tournament. 1 Quote
dentonhorn Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I look down the list weighing each one’s chances, I get 4. That probably means a 50/50 chance we get in from my seat . Quote
Philip Barber Posted January 26 Posted January 26 It was great to beat the Aggies like we did but being down 22 does not give me a lot of confidence because you usually lose such as the Florida game showed. Quote
Dolphorn Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Yes. Horns starting to get some team mojo going - a lot of new faces from last season….it won’t be pretty. 1 Quote
Itsamystery Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I can see three wins at home. You have to steal one on the road and not sure who that could be. Will need to stay healthy to find four wins. But the last few games have given me a glimmer of hope. Quote

pinkman_90 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I think they’ll squeak in assuming Kaluma will be back soon (Weaver too). There’s nothing impressive about this team but they do muddy the waters enough to grind out some wins. Quote
bgreen04 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I dont think this team plays well on the road at all, so grabbing 4 will be tough. SEC is very strong this year. If we can get Kaluma back we have a shot but I’m not optimistic. I’m gonna have to say No, miss the tourney and reboot the program. 1 Quote
Assistant Regional Manager Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Arkansas may be the worst team in the league and we still get them twice + OU at home who we’ve owned. It would be a pretty big collapse to not get to 7 wins. If we get to 8 conference wins, that probably means 6 or 7 Q1 wins which combined with our strong NET will have us in easily. Probably a seed or two higher than some may expect. The fact we were very competitive against Tennessee and Auburn in losses actually slightly improved our NET ranking. 1 Quote
TTown Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Gotta be able to score in the 80's most of the time. As good as Johnson is , I don't see us doing that consistently. So no imo. If they get in it will be a quick exit, and CDC can make the new hire. Pretty sure secret plans are underway. Wouldn't be doing his job if not. And he is damn good at his job.🤘 Quote
Assistant Regional Manager Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I think the important part of the remaining schedule is all the road games are fairly manageable (by SEC standards) and pretty much every road game in this conference is a Q1 opportunity. You steal a couple of those and you are sitting pretty. Quote

And he is damn good at his job.🤘 There are some terrific offensive teams in this conference, but Mississippi has scored 80 in conference only once, and that was when it scored 81 in an OT game. Tennessee is averaging only 60 points in conference games. Auburn scored 70 or fewer in half of its conference games. A&M broke 80 only once in 7 games. Vandy broke 80 only once. You don't win with offense. You don't win with defense. You win with both by outscoring the other team. And right now, the stats say it is our defense that has been more of a problem. I know our offense sputters and looks ugly and goes on long stretches struggling to score, but the numbers show we have been worse on defense, and that is with us having played teams that collectively measure a little better on defense than on offense in conference play. Our defensive numbers might look worse than they otherwise might be if not for the serious collapse we showed on that end in Gainesville, but we aren't protecting defensive glass, we aren't forcing turnovers, and we are surrendering a high percentage both inside and outside the arc. We're a good ft shooting team, but we can't count on ft and ft% disparity to carry us to many wins. 1 Quote
